Zack Whedon To Pen SERENITY: LEAVES ON THE WIND For DARK HORSE
A few months ago we heard that Firefly/Serenity was coming back in a big way. A Firefly online game was announced, and then shortly thereafter Dark Horse revealed plans for a Serenity miniseries. Acclaimed Buffy the Vampire Slayer artist Georges Jeanty was said the be the interior artist but there wasn’t any hints as to who would write the series. Today the Nerdist (via CBR) announced that Zack Whedon, brother to Marvel Godfather Joss and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. showrunner Jed Whedon, will be writing the six-issue miniseries Serenity: Leaves on the Wind.
The series will kick off January 29th. The youngest Whedon brother said of the all-new adventure taking place after the movie:
The challenge is to create something that feels of a piece with the existing franchise… but the ‘Serenity’/’Firefly’ world is where I feel most confident. Beyond that, the challenge is to make something good, something that feels like it is building on what is already there rather than just mimicking it. [The series will] plow forward into the future of these characters and tell new stories which has been a lot of fun. … I know fans have been starving for story, so I don’t hold back in that regard.
The miniseries is said to have the potential to become an ongoing series, so Firefly fans will need to turn out to the comic book stores in full force for that to happen. While Serenity/Firefly may not come back to the big or small screens again, it will live on as a video game and a comic. What do you think about a Whedon penning the new event?
