Jason Aaron and Esad Ribic’s Thor: God of Thunder has been one of the breakout series of Marvel NOW! With the third issue hitting stands this Wednesday, Marvel has released the first part of Esad Ribic’s sketchbook. The first entry shows off young Thor, and the remaining two parts will feature present and future Thor. The five images show off Esad’s early sketches and designs for the series. Jason Aaron also shared a few words about the collection of sketches.
Young Thor doesn’t have his mighty hammer yet, he carries around the axe Jarnbjorn. Aaron commented on Young Thor’s weapon of choice:
Jarnbjorn is the name of young Thor’s axe, which in Norse means ‘Iron Bear.’ That axe made its first appearance in THOR: GOD OF THUNDER #1, but you can expect it to pop up elsewhere in the [Marvel Universe] as well.
Aaron also comments on the overall look of young Thor saying “That face says it all, doesn’t it? That is one cocky young god—with a very large axe. Looks like the kind of brash, mead-swilling, combat-loving god who might get himself into lots and lots of trouble. In fact, I’d count on it.” Marvel promises a sketchbook for the present and future Thor later this week, and we’ll be sure to bring them to you.
