X-News: Mystique Gets Her Kicks In New Days Of Future Past Pic And Jeff Wadlow Says X-Force Is 100% The Version He Wants To Make
Bryan Singer. Twitter. Days of Future Past picture. You know the drill by now. The director of the upcoming inbetweenquel posted a brand new behind the scenes photo featuring Jennifer Lawrence kicking an unidentified man in the throat. This weekend Singer posted that he had finished a long shoot with the actress, so this is presumably from that and hints that Mystique has an extended action sequence. It probably culminates in her finding this guy and getting some information. That’s just my best guess, we’ll have to wait until next year to see what this scene is actually about.

In other X-related news, writer/director Jeff Wadlow is talking a little more about the X-Force movie with the folks at Collider. One of the last pieces of news we heard from Wadlow was an explanation about how the budget would be the deciding factor as to whether the movie is PG-13 or R. The Kick-Ass 2 director touched on how much of X-Force is his own work and how much the studio is interfering or mandating certain things. It sounds like Wadlow has free reign for the most part:
It’s 100% the version I wanted to do. I worked it out. This wasn’t some open assignment where they were like, ‘Who’s out there that wants to do this?’ When I heard Mark get that job, I said, ‘I want to do an X-Force movie and this is the way I would do it.’ I pitched to him and he gave me a few ideas and some notes, not as a studio mandate, just as a friend and a collaborator. Steve Asbell at Fox heard it, loved it, bought it and said, ‘Let’s do it!’ It’s the movie I wanted to make.
The film doesn’t officially have a green light just yet and production would still be a year or so away, but Wadlow sounds pretty confident that it will happen and not go the way of the long gestating Deadpool flick:
It’s development. You look at, for example, the history of the X franchise: there was a Magneto script, I think there was an X-Men: First Class script that was about like Cyclops and Jean Grey, so there’s, obviously very famously, the Deadpool one. So it’s definitely developing right now, but they’r excited about it and I’m a filmmaker, first and foremost – I’m not just a writer for hire. I’m writing the movie I want to make and hopefully they’ll let me make it.
You can watch the full video interview with Wadlow below. He talks a lot about Kick-Ass 2 of course, but the X-Force talk and discussion on the superhero genre as a whole kicks off around the 6:20 mark. What do you think about Mystique kicking throats and taking names? Are you liking what you’ve heard from Wadlow about X-Force so far?
