X-MEN Producers Would Love To Do A MYSTIQUE Spinoff

by

MystiquebannerIn the age of the ever loved team up franchises, Fox has the opposite problem. They have this vast library of X-Men characters, but spinning them off into their own solo movies have been a bit of a challenge. We all know the fate of X-Men Origins Wolverine and that Deadpool has been stuck in development hell for a while. But they also have secured a victory as well with last year’s The Wolverine.

SMystiqueJlawpinoffs remain a priority for the studio. Although that wasn’t the cast according to longtime X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner, who is still wanting Gambit and Deadpool movies. “There was a regime [at the studio] that didn’t see the worth in [spin-offs], and the current people who run Fox understand, embrace it, and we’re going to do right by it. I’d like to do Gambit. I’d like to do Deadpool. We’ll see. There’s a lot of really great characters,” she explained.

There’s another one we can add to the list of potential spinoffs as well, Mystique. Since the character has such a crucial role in the upcoming Days Of Future Past movie, Shuler Donner says that she would also like to give Jennifer Lawrence (who plays the shape shifter) a crack at her own movie. Fellow producer Simon Kindberg agreed by saying, “I love what Jen Lawrence has done with her, and I feel like because she is in such a crowded ensemble, there’s so much more opportunity if you were to follow her solo.”

We know that Fox will be wanting to build toward somewhat of a shared universe with their other Marvel property in the Fantastic Four. However, spinning off their vast library of X-Men characters makes sense to maximize potential box-office earnings. We will keep you up to date on all potential X-Men spinoffs right here at Comic Book Therapy.
