X-MEN Producer Lauren Shuler Donner Is Dying To Do A GAMBIT Movie With Channing Tatum
Way back when Channing Tatum was doing press for White House Down, he made mention that he would like to play Gambit in an X-Men movie. Tatum pointed to his roots of growing up around New Orleans, and his ability to nail the Cajun accent as credentials to being able to play the character. He also made sure not to knock previous Gambit Taylor Kitsch, who Tatum said he like his portrayal of the character in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but he thinks that he has more of a background to nail the character.
Long time X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner would also like to see a Gambit movie with Tatum as the lead. “I’m dying to do a Gambit movie with Channing Tatum,” Shuler Donner says. “That doesn’t have to be a great big movie. It’s a thief in New Orleans, it’s a whole different story. He’s on board, and I have to get the studio on board. How can anyone resist Channing? He’s such a sweetheart.”
So, it sounds like this Channing Tatum as Gambit thing has legs. Not only is he on board to do it, but producers want him. The only thing that might be holding it up is studio approval. And while you might not be a Channing Tatum fan, there is no denying that he is a big name in Hollywood right now. While there doesn’t seem to be any plans to include Gambit into the X-Men Universe any time soon, make sure to check back here at Comic Book Therapy if that changes.
