I just got a new iPad. And it’s so easy to make video then upload it to YouTube. So I am experimenting with using video blogs to help out with my course on superhero comics, and just to think out loud on various aspects of the superhero.
The first episode touches on Superman, Kirby‘s New Gods, and what I see as a tension between fantasy and reality that is demonstrated by many writers of superhero comics.
I swear, I don’t make stupid faces through the entire thing. Only, apparently, when everyone is watching.
Jason has a Ph.D. in English from the University of California, Riverside, where he teaches literature courses on comics and the graphic novel in addition to classes on writing and composition. Besides comics, his other interests include online gaming and Medieval and Renaissance literature such as Beowulf, Chaucer, Shakespeare, and Milton. Online, his identity is "Doctor Comics," and he is the author of various academic articles on comics-related subjects as well as an upcoming book on the intersection of superhero comics and more traditional literature.
