UPDATE: Some conflicting reports coming in from some different sources. Boris Kit of THR is reporting that no offer has been made and that Momoa has only tested for the role. This doesn’t mean Momoa won’t get the part, just that Marvel hasn’t chosen their Drax just yet. We’ll keep you updated and this unfold, so keep checking back!

Now that we know Chris Pratt will play the lead role in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy adaptation, we can look forward to other casting news in the film. Today, we can focus on Drax the Destroyer, who according to Latino Review, will be filled by none other than Jason Momoa. The actor who played Conan in the recent Lionsgate reboot flew to London this past Wednesday, where director James Gunn has set up camp to get things rolling on the film. The test obviously went well, as Marvel is reported to have offered him the role, with Momoa’s reps counter, so negotiatoins are on-going.

Momoa is also known for playing Khal Drogo in the hit HBO series Game of Thrones and was recently seen in Bullet to the Head opposite Sylvester Stallone. It has also been reported that Isiah Mustafa, Dave Bautista and Brian Patrick were up for the role.

Should this pan out, I’d say it’s pretty solid casting. The project is currently in pre-production and is expected to begin shooting in a few months time in London. We can expect more casting news in the near future, I’m sure, as there are still several key roles to fill. Guardians of the Galaxy will hit theaters August 2014 and will help kick of Marvel’s Phase 3.
