UPDATE: Poster For The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug: Plus First Trailer On The Way

by

The first poster for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug has been released. It’s a tiny little picture, but I’m sure an official version of the image will be released soon. The poster is similar to the theatrical poster for the first film. It featured Bilbo (Martin Freeman) in a burgundy jacket with Sting held in front of him and across his body. The poster of Bilbo in blue comes via Bleeding Cool. I blew it up to a larger size, but as you can tell it’s not the greatest quality. As an added bonus there’s also a new character pick of Evangeline Lilly (via EW) as Tauriel. She is a new elf created by Peter Jackson for the sequel. She looks a lot like a female Link from Zelda to me.

Along with the poster comes word on the first trailer. The BBFC have rated the first trailer as 12A. We can expect it online this coming Tuesday sometime around 10am PDT. Then on Friday you can see it in theaters in 3D when you check out Man of Steel. We’ll be sure to have the trailer for you as soon as it hits. What do you think of our first little poster? Do you hope we get a glimpse of the Benedict Cumberbatch voiced dragon Smaug in the first trailer?

Update: I’m hearing now that this poster is fan made. It’s a great poster and we may well see one like this when the movie actually starts releasing stuff, but this isn’t it. Thanks to @PaulRomCBM for the heads up. All the other information regarding the trailer is legit. And of course that’s an official image of Evangeline Lilly. Enjoy those two bits while we wait for a real poster.
