UPDATE: Bruce Timm NOT Stepping Down As Producer Of DC Animation JUST TAKING A BREAK
Update: It turns out that Timm IS NOT going to leave DC animation. Reports are coming out of WonderCon that Timm is just taking a hiatus for an undisclosed amount of time to work on “something secret and big.” Timm is still on with the company, but he won’t oversee the next few DC animated projects. James Tucker will oversee those until Timm returns. No word on what Timm’s super secret and huge project is, but if we hear anything we’ll be sure to let you know. Original story follows:
Sad news today for DC animation fans everywhere- Bruce Timm is stepping down from his producer spot, overseeing all of DC‘s animated efforts. Ed Gross from VoicesFromKrypton.net broke the news today that Timm would be moving on to develop more of his own projects.
Timm, who brought us the legendary Batman: The Animated Series, has been a guiding hand for nearly all of DC‘s animated shows and movies since 1992. The man that has the hard task of filling Timm’s shoes is James Tucker. Tucker has a distinguished resume, producing shows like Justice League, Legion of Super Heroes, and Batman: The Brave and the Bold. He is also the director of the upcoming Superman Unbound movie. Timm had been mentioning The Dark Knight Returns Parts 1 and 2 would be a good and fitting story to go out on, so the announcement isn’t a complete shock. Tucker agreed The Dark Knight Returns was a fitting swansong:
Bruce had done a lot since Justice League Unlimited ended, so it’s been quite a haul. I can’t speak for him, but I think going out on Dark Knight Returns was a special thing for him. If he was going to make the break, that seemed like a good time.
Timm leaves behind an impressive body of work, heck they even call the animated stuff the Timmverse. Timm is a hard act to follow, but Tucker seems to be a good fit for the producer role. Do you think it will have as big of an effect on DC as it seems on paper?
