The Doctor Is In: Christopher Eccleston Signs On For Thor

Thor: The Dark World has found its villain in Christopher Eccleston. The actor, probably best known for his time as the ninth Doctor on the world-wide hit show Doctor Who, has signed on to battle Chris Hemsworth in the new Marvel film.
Deadline is reporting that Eccleston has signed on to play Malekith The Accursed. Malekith is the ruler of the Dark Elves who has clashed with Thor many times throughout his history. This news also confirms previous reports that dark elves would be featured in the sequel.
This is an excellent bit of casting on Marvel’s part. Even my Doctor Who bias aside, Eccleston is an excellent actor. From his work in the movie Jude, to his recent portrayal of John Lennon, Eccleston has proved that he is a top caliber actor. Even his appearance in G.I. Joe made that movie just slightly better. Malekith isn’t entirely out of the blue either, he has been featured a few times in Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. This is a decent villain addition and it should be interesting to see how it plays out. What do you think of this casting announcement? Are you ready for some dark elves? Featured below is one of Eccleston’s best scenes in his Doctor Who run.
