Valiant Entertainment presents The World’s Worst Superhero Team! Wait, what? On July 10, Valiant revives another beloved series of their first full-on superhero team being written by James Asmus (Gambit, Thief of Thieves, Captain America & Bucky) and art by Tom Fowler (Venom, Hulk: Season One) and colorist Jordie Bellaire.

Once upon a time, Eric and Woody Henderson were inseparable. Adopted brothers. Best friends. Brilliant minds. Years later, they are estranged siblings, petty rivals, and washed-up failures. But when their father’s murder leads them into the throes of a life-altering scientific accident, Eric and Woody will find themselves with a whole new purpose – and a perfectly legitimate reason to wear costumes and fight crime. Go big or go home, folks! Quantum and Woody are coming! And the action-packed, zeitgeist-shredding exploitation stunt comic you demanded is here at last.

(And, yes, there will be a goat too. Eventually.)

Launched by Christopher Priest and M.D. Bright for Acclaim Entertainment’s rebooted Valiant Universe in 1997, Quantum and Woody became one of the most beloved independent superhero titles of the decade, spawning a rabid and loyal following that endures to this day. Most recently, Valiant Entertainment re-issued the entirety of the original series for the first time digitally via comiXology.

Those of you out there who read the original series know how enjoyable and fantastic this title was. I figured this would come sooner than I thought since Quantum and Woody was re-issued on ComiXology and with reading the teaser a few days back. This summer is shaping Valiant up to have another batch of critically acclaimed comics ahead of them and Quantum and Woody is a welcomed addition to the revived universe.

Stay tuned for more news on the terrible duo and be sure to follow Valiant on Facebook, on Twitter, and at ValiantUniverse.com.

We’ve got two previews for some new books hitting comic book stories January 23rd. Our double preview page features the debut of Young Avengers and the follow-up of sorts to Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe.

Young Avengers debuts featuring a new team. The crew includes Wiccan, Hulkling, Hawkeye, Loki, Marvel Boy, and Ms. America. Kieron Gillen writes the series and Jamie McKelvie and Mike Norton provide art.

Also kicking off is a new Deadpool miniseries that follows hot on the heels of Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe. Cullen Bunn returns to guide Deadpool in his journey to destroy all of fictions most popular characters. First up- Moby Dick! The series features art by Matteo Lolli and Sean Parsons. Check out the solicit info and preview pages below!

Legacy isn’t a dirty word… but it’s an irrelevant one. It’s not important what our parents did. It matters what WE do. Someone has to save the world. You’re someone. Do the math. The critically acclaimed team of Gillen/McKelvie/Wilson (with added Norton Sauce) decide to reinvent the teen superhero comic for the 21st century, uniting Wiccan, Hulkling and Hawkeye with Loki, Marvel Boy and Ms. America. No pressure. Young Avengers is as NOW! as the air in your lungs, and twice as vital. It’s the book that knows Hyperbole is the BEST! THING! EVER!

Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo brought the high heat with Batman #16 released yesterday. The Joker is reaching the conclusion of his deadly game as he lures Batman into his final trap. Assembling all of Batman’s deadliest rogues together to form the court of the Bat King, Joker is finally ready to give Batman the feast he’s been promising. Batman #17 will bring everything to an end. Scott Snyder has been making the rounds today talking about the sure to be shocking conclusion.

Of course the Batman scribe gave nothing big away, but he did whet fans appetites for the big finale:

I can tell you there are definitely some insane moments in the conclusion and some crazy things happen so, I’ve always been braced for it as something that isn’t designed to just shock for the sake of shocking, but is the culmination of the story in a way that feels organic and surprising. I can’t remember who it was, but I had a teacher that gave me a writing quote when I was a student that said ‘Every ending should be both inevitable and totally surprising,’ and I completely believe that. Hopefully this is an ending that feels organic to the story we’ve been telling, and when you get there you’ll say ‘I can’t believe this just happened,’ and at the same time, you’ll feel that it’s a cumulative, horrible thing out of everything that’s been going on.

It’s hard to imagine with a title like Death of the Family that everyone is going to make it out in one piece. While the story won’t conclude the Batman line, it does have some parallels to Dan Slott’s Spider-Man #700. Snyder recalls joking about the conclusion with his friend Slott:

I was actually joking on the phone with Dan Slott after “Spider-Man” #700. I was telling him how I felt so bad because it sounded like things got crazy for him, and he said, “Wait until you get to ‘Batman’ #17! You’ll have the same.” So honestly, maybe I will go be in a bunker somewhere the day that issue comes out. But I believe in the ending very strongly. I believe in the story beat we’re headed towards.

Two pages of Greg Capullo’s art have also been released to hype up the highly anticipated finale. Issue #16 was an absolute treat. The two page spread featuring the “throne room” was stunning. What do you think will happen in the final pages of Death of the Family?

Valiant is proud to present an advance preview of Harbinger #8 – the next installment of the brand new, critically acclaimed “Renegades” storyline by New York Times best-selling author Joshua Dysart (Unknown Soldier) and fan favorite artist Lee Garbett (Batman: R.I.P.)! With Toyo Harada and the Harbinger Foundation in hot pursuit, Peter Stanchek and his band of outlaw superhuman runaways have just found their newest member. But can even the Renegades handle a wild card like the musclebound powerhouse called Torque?

In a shed in the backwoods of Northern Georgia lives a meek, sequestered teen named John Torkelson. Raised just this side of feral, and on a steady diet of MMA and reality TV, fried catfish and Cheeto pie, he’s a firm believer that women should be seen and not heard (though he really hasn’t met many). But when four strange, super-powered teenagers suddenly appear in the woods outside his shed, Torkelson’s life takes a turn he never could have imagined. Now the boy his poppa called “Stump” is about to become more man than he could ever imagine. But then…what exactly is a “real man”? For that matter, what’s a real hero? Only one thing’s certain, the Renegades are about to get a hell of a lot stronger.

Peter Stanchek. Kris Hathaway. Zephyr. Flamingo. There’s never been a team of super-powered teenagers quite like the Renegades. Now get ready for a whole new level of intensity when Torque hammers his way into the Valiant Universe on January 23rd – only in Harbinger #8! And ask your local retailer about this issue’s special incentive variant covers by Khari Evans (Carbon Grey) and Jeff Lemire (Sweet Tooth, Underwater Welder)!

Age of Ultron has been years in the making, and this summer the highly anticipated book from Brian Bendis and Bryan Hitch will finally take the Marvel Universe by storm. Marvel unveiled a new preview of the book with a gold foil cover and two pages of massive destruction. The announcement features a paragraph of story teasing, but the second paragraph hits you in the face with the full force of the 1990s! Marvel is putting out a gold foil cover for Age of Ultron. DC put out die cut covers with Death of the Family and now they are gearing up for gatefold covers for what they’re calling “Holy $h!*” month. With Marvel rolling out he gold foil, could we be seeing some hologram cards soon?

Marvel is pleased to present your first look at the explosive first issue of Age Of Ultron #1! This March, enter the darkest days of the Marvel Universe as it’s heroes fight for from the blockbuster creative team of Brian Michael Bendis (All New X-Men, Avengers VS. X-Men) and Bryan Hitch (Ultimates, Fantastic Four). Evil has triumphed over good and leading this new age is none other than Ultron, the deadly sentient robot created by founding Avenger Hank Pym who turned on his creator to achieve his twisted objective…the utter destruction of humanity. Now, it’s up to the few remaining heroes to band together and find any way to topple their new monarch. Can Wolverine, Emma Frost, Invisible Woman, Taskmaster, Beast, She-Hulk, Luke Cage, Spider-Man, and Moon Knight turn the tide?

With the robotic revolution in full force, no fan can miss how Age of Ultron will ultimately change the Marvel Universe leaving no hero or villain unscathed! So what are you waiting for? Head on over to your local comic shop and reserve a copy of Age of Ultron #1, featuring a unique cover with foil treatment and design at no extra cost. Fans have been demanding to know more about Age of Ultron since Free Comic Book Day last year, and come March- some of those questions and more (including an ending nobody will see coming) will be answered in Age of Ultron!

FIRST LOOK: FLAMINGO Burns Bright in HARBINGER #7

To all the Valiant fans out there, check this out:

Valiant is proud to present an advance preview of Harbinger #7 by New York Times best-selling author Joshua Dysart and fan favorite artist Barry Kitson! “Renegades” continues as Peter, Kris and Faith gain a fiery new ally in their quest to bring down the Harbinger Foundation. But who is the flame-wielding heroine known as Flamingo?

Charlene Dupre feels like she’s been on fire since the day she was born. Too hot to handle, abused and misused, she’s turned to a dead-end life on the sleazy side of the New Orleans streets. But when Peter and his strange band of teenagers with wondrous powers walk into the strip club where she works, Charlene discovers the heat that’s been burning her up inside is the only thing that can set her free.

It’s vengeance, acceptance and fire as the Harbinger Resistance adds one more to its ranks. But with this renegade team of super-powered agitators now on the road and out of control all across America, will it be long before Project Rising Spirit steps up its pursuit of Peter Stanchek – the wayward boy that just might become their secret weapon?

Find out on December 19th in Harbinger #7 – the next issue of the series that Major Spoilers calls “an impressive display of character work” and “a great showcase for [its] creators.”

“Santa Claus, my dear old friend, you are a thief, a traitor, a slanderer, a murder, a liar, but worst of all you are a mockery of everything for which I stood.

You have sung your last ho, ho, ho, for I am coming to take your head. I am coming to take back what is mine, to take back Yuletide… I Krampus, Lord of Yule, son of Hel, bloodline of the great Loki, swear to cut your lying tongue from your mouth, your thieving hands from your wrists, and your jolly head from your neck.”

Recently while attending a small local Comic Book show in Seattle, called Jet City Comic Show I got to meet with longtime Fantasy artist Brom. [Gerald] Brom has been a long time fantasy artists who has done some superb artwork for all areas of sci-fi, fantasy world. From Novels, to Comic Books, as well even illustrating Magic the Gathering gaming cards. While his art is often loaded into the same category as Frank Franzetta, his style is all his own, a little bit darker often mixing in the elements of Horror, Fantasy, and Science-Fantasy into his work; a sort of visual fusion art, if you will.

While speaking briefly with long time artist Brom at Jet City, he told me about his upcoming book that releases this October titled KRAMPUS, the Yule Lord. Needless to say I got a little excited about this due to the use if this ancient European Christmas Legend as the basis of fantasy novel. If you don’t know about Krampus he is a mythical creature recognized in European alpine countries. According to legend, Krampus accompanies Saint Nicholas during the Christmas season, warning and punishing bad children, in contrast to St. Nicholas, who gives gifts to good children. When the Krampus finds a particularly naughty child, it stuffs the child in its sack and carries the frightened child away to its lair, presumably to devour for its Christmas dinner. (And yes Krampus was introduced to me via a certain episode of Venture Brothers.)

Brom’s new book is just in time for both of the upcoming holidays, Halloween and Christmas! While this story is technically a Christmas story the art seems just perfect for a Halloween read, and I’d read it out for both.

Brom’s Krampus

The synopsis of Brom’s new novel is as follows: One Christmas Eve in a small hollow in Boone County, West Virginia, struggling songwriter Jesse Walker witnesses a strange spectacle: seven devilish figures chasing a man in a red suit toward a sleigh and eight reindeer. When the reindeer leap skyward taking the sleigh, devil men, and Santa into the clouds, screams follow. Moments later, a large sack plummets earthward, a magical sack that will thrust the down-on-his luck singer into the clutches of the terrifying Yule Lord, Krampus. But the lines between good and evil become blurred as Jesse’s new master reveals many dark secrets about the cherry-cheeked Santa Claus, and how half a millennium ago, the jolly old saint imprisoned Krampus and usurped his magic. Now Santa’s time is running short, for the Yule Lord is determined to have his retribution and reclaim Yuletide. If Jesse can survive this ancient feud, he might have the chance to redeem himself to his family, to save his own broken dreams…and help bring the magic of Yule to the impoverished folk of Boone County.

Brom’s Santa Claus

With what looks to be some great art and fantastic writing I’d check out this novel right away, it’s sure to be a good and fun read. To learn more about KRAMPUS, the Yule Lord book debuting this October, or to see more of Brom’s work please check out his website at: www.BromArt.com

Word has just come down from The Amazing Spider-Man’s official Facebook page that a special 6 minute preview will show up at the Men In Black 3 IMAX midnight premiere. You may remember that we recently had a special 4 minute “super preview” recently with only one real scene of new footage. This 6 minute version is expected to have more new footage, and with it being in IMAX you know it will look great. If you needed another reason to see Will Smith, Josh Brolin, and Tommy Lee Jones in the third MIB movie this is it. With the 4 and now 6 minute previews, I fear we may be getting too spoiled with footage and feel like we’ve seen the best parts. We’ll see how much new stuff is featured in the new preview. The film comes out July 3rd. Here’s the Spider-Man synopsis followed by the MIB synopsis in case you were wondering.

Like most teenagers his age, Peter is trying to figure out who he is and how he got to be the person he is today. In his journey to put the pieces of his past together he uncovers a secret his father held…a secret that will ultimately shape his destiny as Spider-Man. This is the first in a series of movies that tells a different side of the Peter Parker story. On July 3rd, 2012, the untold story begins.

In Men in Black™ 3, Agents J (Will Smith) and K (Tommy Lee Jones) are back… in time. J has seen some inexplicable things in his 15 years with the Men in Black, but nothing, not even aliens, perplexes him as much as his wry, reticent partner. But when K’s life and the fate of the planet are put at stake, Agent J will have to travel back in time to put things right. J discovers that there are secrets to the universe that K never told him — secrets that will reveal themselves as he teams up with the young Agent K (Josh Brolin) to save his partner, the agency, and the future of humankind.

If you could relive major events in your life, would you take a stab at making things better—and would your best attempts only make things worse? Or would you use your second chance to put your most twisted, perverted fantasies in motion? These are questions washed-up actor and comedian Guy Krause asks himself after he signs up to be the main research subject for a virtual-reality experiment.

“I originally envisioned Reset mostly taking place in the virtual fantasy world of protagonist Guy Krause’s imagination, but soon discovered that the events occurring simultaneously in his real life were far more interesting, and so I wound up focusing more on that instead. I guess truth is stranger than fiction—and that’s why I’m generally not a fantasy writer!”
