There are reports coming out today that director Josh Trank is considering casting Michael B. Jordan as Johnny Storm/The Human Torch in Fox‘s Fantastic Four reboot. Jordan starred in Trank‘s Chronicle, so the two are no strangers to each other. The Wrap is reporting the actor is on the short list for the role.

Of course 20th Century Fox declined to comment on the report, but The Wrap claims to have several sources close to the studio and that actor who confirm Trank and Jordan may be reuniting. Jordan has had several meetings at Fox the past several weeks, and if he has good chemistry with the other actors, the role is his for the taking. This leaves the rumor about Allison Williams being Sue Storm up in the air. Not to say that Jordan and Williams couldn’t be step-brother and sister or adopted siblings, but with Jordan as (possibly) the Human Torch it will be interesting to see how Fox fills the other three roles.

The Wrap also states that the film has not been officially greenlit, which is pretty surprising. The film is scheduled for a March 6, 2015 release with filming to begin this fall. Matthew Vaughn is producing the film written by Jeremy Slater and Seth Grahame-Smith. what do you think about Jordan as the Human Torch?

Not much is known in regards to Fox’s reboot of the Fantastic Four reboot, other that Chronicle’s Josh Trank will be helming the project, with Matthew Vaughn serving as producer on the film. This is, without a doubt, a rather impressive duo to have working on a comic book film together and they will hopefully bring some life to a franchise that is in need of a little refreshing.

Coming from Twitter, @lemon_buzz to be specific, is news that the film has started pre-production work up in Vancouver and it looks as though they are gunning for a September 2013 date to begin filming. If this is the case, we can likely expect some more news on the project , including casting news, which should be interesting as it will be a telling look into the direction of the film.

As it stands now, the film has a Spring 2015 release date, which gives the production team plenty of time to make things right. As we all know, two previous Fantastic Four films have already been released and while they had impressive box office numbers, both fans and critics alike panned them for their lack-luster stories and iffy casting.

With Trank and Vaughn at the helm, things may be looking up. Let’s not forget that Fox is in the process of creating their own movie-verse, much like Marvel has been doing. Mark Millar was brought in to oversee the process of this and he’s been in touch with directors of the X-Men films, Bryan Singer, so it’s possible we could see some tie-ins to the X-Men world with this new FF4 reboot.

So, let the fantasy casting begin! Who would you like to see land the four leading roles? Are you expecting Doctor Doom to be the main villain, or would you rather have someone we haven’t seen, like Moleman? How about a real Galactus?

Tim Story’s Fantastic Four films didn’t really do all that bad at the box office, but Fox wants the approval of the fan boy and geek crowds, which is a smart move, as that’s where the money is. In order to do that, the studio was forced to reboot the franchise. The project has gotten ff on the right foot by bringing in Chronicle director Josh Trank to helm the film.. To top things off, Fox has brought in novelist and screen writer Seth Grahame-Smith to put some fresh touches on the script, which was initially done by Jeremy Slater.

Grahame-Smith is known for his quirky historical novels like Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and Pride & Prejudice & Zombies. In the film world, Grahame-Smith worked on Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows. Not long ago, we learned that Matthew Vaughn, director of Kick-Ass and X-Men: First Class was brought in as a producer, yet another step in the right direction.

THR also reports that the film will look to the comic mythology, which includes not only more familiar baddies like Doctor Doom and Galactus, but with the Kree and Skrull alien races, as well as the anti-matter universe known as “The Negative Zone.”

Jessica Alba and Chris Evans headlined the 2005 film and its follow up in 2007, which brought the fan-favorite character Silver Surfer and a really bad version of Galactus to the big screen. As mentioned earlier, the films didn’t do too bad at the box office, but the fan-base they were trying to attract were biting. With the more “grounded and sci-fi” approach that Trank and company will be taking, they may have a good thing going. Of course, the cast they bring in will a play a big part in that as well. Fox has set a release date of March 2015, so that gives the crew some time to get a decent cast locked down.

(See what I did there?) Bad writing aside, Singer has got quite a task ahead of him in attempting to make sense of all the previous X-Men films. This is something that many fans have been wanting for some time, as each X-Men film that has come out has seemingly ignored all other X-films, creating a rather messy timeline issue. But with Days of Future Past, there is a time-travel element that could be the saving grace for the franchise.

In order to set things right and make sure he does it in a way that makes sense, Singer talked with James Cameron-a conversation that lasted over two hours- to discuss time travel and ways to make the timeline coherent.

”We’ve cracked it in a way that it makes sense. I had a two-hour conversation with James Cameron about time travel, string theory, multiverses and all that. You have to create your rules and stick with them. That’s why Terminator and Back To The Future work so well. And there are certain mechanisms in X-Men, certain powers, perceptions and characters, that make this possible.”

By jove, I think he’s got it! In regards to time travel rules, once you set up those rules, it’s quite important that you stick to them! Also, we can only speculate as to what “mechanisms, powers and characters” he is hinting at, but could we finally see Forge? Bishop? Cable?! Ahhhhh! One thing is certain and that is the answer tot hat question likely depends on how closely his story sticks to the iconic comic, to which he states:

“It has a lot of aspects of the comic. The actual comic of Days Of Future Past had a whole ton of stuff going on, so it’s like any of these things; you have to distill it. But I think the fans will be pleased that some of the most exciting parts of Days Of Future Past are going to be connected to this movie.”

Now, back to the opening paragraph, where I discussed connecting all of the movies in the X-Men universe, some of which have completely ignored and disregarded other films. Again, a rather daunting task to make something of the mess. Singer states that he is looking at all of the previous films, not just the first two he directed and First Class, but all of them.

I’m taking into account the entire universe as it’s been laid out so far on the screen, and really respecting it and trying to work with that. People took things in various directions, so there’s some clean-up. But ultimately I’m not just ignoring them either.”

I don’t envy the man in that regard at all. Oh and in tradition of X-Men: First Class’s phenomenal use of their allowed PG-13 “F-Bomb,” Singer was asked if they’d included something similar in the script. His reply is expected, yet pleasing.

”We’re going to have another one in this one. We have another one coming up!”

Production on Days of Future Past is expected to begin this spring with an impressive cast that includes actors from many X-Men films: James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman, Anna Paquin, Shawn Ashmore, Ellen Page, among other. More are likely to join, assuming Brett Ratner didn’t kill them off. The film is slated for a summer 2014 release.

The comic book writer has been juggling some new projects on his Millarworld imprint, working on the Kick-Ass 2 movie, and doing his duties as 20th Century Fox’s creative consultant for their Marvel movies. The first film out of the gate is James Mangold’s Wolverine. Miller talked about everyone’s favorite Canadian berserker in a recent interview.

Speaking with SciFiNow (via Totalfilm.com), Millar praised Mangold’s movie saying the director is brilliant. The movie started filming before Millar got the consultant job, but he has overseen much of the film’s production. Having written one of the best Wolverine stories, Old Man Logan, Millar believes the character is ripe for solo movies:

I don’t think it detracts having individual Wolverine adventures from the X-Men. He’s like a lone wolf character, he disappears and does his own thing sometimes and then he comes back and hangs out at the mansion, so it does feel quite natural for him to be in these movies.

While Wolverine is a favorite among fans, he does have the potential to be overused as can be seen in several comics nowadays. Millar doesn’t want to make that mistake:

You don’t want to have him out there all the time, because I think if you’ve got him in X-Men and Wolverine movies and they’re all running at the same time, it’s a little bit too much but as long as you’re smart with it then there’s a lot of other characters to explore… The X-Men universe is about the same size as the Marvel universe in terms of the number of titles it sustains at any one time, so there’s a ton of stuff to play with there and a lot of characters I’d like to explore there too.

Wolverine has been slightly overused in the past few years. You can’t swing a cat in the Marvel universe without hitting a team he’s on (CBT doesn’t condone swinging cats, it’s just a phrase). Say what you will about Millar, but the man has had a good grasp on the character. We know Wolverine will pop up in Days of Future Past, but maybe we’ll see his appearances scaled back a bit afterwards. What do you think about Millar’s comments? Do you like your Wolverine in moderation?

I’m pretty sure some fans have given up on the idea that Deadpool movie is ever going to happen. For the better part of three years now, that very project has been stuck in some form of development hell and can’t seem to find its way out. They’ve got a great script written by Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, a director in Tim Miller, who is chomping at the bit to get the film made, and of course, Ryan Reynolds is ready to don the black and red to portray the character. So, what’s the problem you ask? It looks as though former Fox CEO Tom Rothman was not a fan of the character, so he wasn’t willing to give the film a green light, but with him having recently stepped down, there may be some hope.

Director Tim Miller recently answered a single question regarding the Deadpool film and it’s good news for fans.

“We’ve turned in an amazing script and done some early tests and visual development that–I’m confident–would get the fans stoked,” Miller wrote. “And Ryan [Reynolds] still loves the project. So it’s really up to Fox as to whether or not the film happens–all I can do is hope (and beg periodically) that it be allowed to move ahead.”

But there is more good news from the rather outspoken creator of the Deadpool creator, Rob Liefield, who took to his Twitter account after hearing about Millers response. Here’s what he had to say:

Liefield goes on to reply to a question from a fan and says that Reynolds will be in full costume this time around, rather than the half-assed mess we saw in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Having seen the trailer for the new Deadpool game, there are no doubts that it will be a success and will hopefully prove to the execs at Fox that a Deadpool movie is worth the time and money. Not to mention that script! If they use the version that was leaked a few years ago, or some version of it, it’s a guaranteed hit.

Just when you think the drama of the Daredevil reboot couldn’t get any more…well, dramatic, we get a bit of interesting news that could indicate the future of the potential Joe Carnahan-directed reboot of Daredevil. Last week, Thorverine reported that Marvel and Fox were in discussions for a character swap of sorts. While it was never confirmed, the deal would allow Fox more time to get their Daredevil film in production in exchange for the character rights for Galactus and Silver Surfer, both of whom play a big part in the Fantastic Four universe, a property that is also being rebooted at Fox. This deal, if true, puts Fox between a rock and a hard place.

But that all may be for naught as Joe Carnahan has taken to Twitter tonight dropping some interesting news that doesn’t sound very good for Fox or Carnahan.

So what does this mean? Not really sure, but if I had a hunch, Fox may be giving up on the idea. Carnahan later tweeted “We shall see. Time is NOT on anyone’s side.” Fox’s contract states that if a film is not in production by October 10th of 2012, the rights revert back to Marvel and with just under two months to go, things don’t look good. This news only furthers that notion. We’ll be sure to keep you updated as this story unfolds, as I suspect it will do so rather quickly.

Fox has tapped Jeremy Slater to write the reboot. The Hollywood Reporters states that the up-and-coming writer, along with Trank, are indications that Fox is trying to capture the hardcore comic book fans. Both Trank and Slater are of that particular genre. Slater has a horror movie Tape 4 floating around Hollywood, which is centered in the H.P. Lovecraft mythology. It is being worked on by Lionsgate. Slater also wrote My Spy, which is a teen spy comedy.

It’s too early for any sort of casting yet, but there had been a rumor floating around since the reboot was first announced that The Thing would be purely CGI. With all of this recent news, it seems Fox is pushing it to get a Fantastic Four movie off the ground. It is the next big film lined up after The Wolverine.

Twentieth Century Fox has released their movie plans for 2013 and 2014. They feature Matthew Vaughn’s sequel to X-Men First Class in July of 2014 and the sequel to Rise of the Planet of the Apes called Dawn of the Planet of the Apes in May of 2014. It’s nice to finally have a date on the X-Men movie. We know Vaughn and company have been working on it and that it will shoot not too long from now, but with a released date in place we can figure out how long until we start getting news about how it will shape up.

Also in an intersting turn of events, Independence Day will be re-released in 3D on July 3rd of next year. Another movie Fox has slated is Spielberg’s Robopocalypse which was pushed back a few months to April of 2014. You can read the official press release for the full rundown of Fox movies coming out over the next two years.

Los Angeles (May 31, 2012) __ Twentieth Century Fox announced today some major additions to its 2013-14 release slate, along with some date changes.

On the heels of the $344 million worldwide success of TITANIC 3D, the studio and director Roland Emmerich, in conjunction with Stereo 3D, which did the work on TITANIC, will produce a top quality 3D version of the iconic INDEPENDENCE DAY. ID43D will be released worldwide on July 3, 2013.

The studio also staked its 2014 summer with three giant tentpoles. First up, Fox, together with Disney and Dreamworks, has shifted the release of Steven Spielberg’s epic ROBOPOCALYPSE to go worldwide on April 25, 2014, the same weekend that “Avengers” was released internationally this year. Disney distributes domestically. (ID43D now occupies its former release date.)

Then on Memorial Day (May 23, 2014), Fox unleashes DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES worldwide, the sequel to the $483 million grossing RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES. Rupert Wyatt, who helmed the 2011 smash, returns to direct. The returning producers are Peter Chernin, Dylan Clark, Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver.

And on July 18, 2014, Fox releases worldwide the third of its summer tentpoles, the currently untitled X-MEN, to be directed by Matthew Vaughn.

Fox also announced its Christmas 2013 line-up, with THE SECRET LIFE OF WALTER MITTY, starring Ben Stiller and Kristin Wiig, and directed by Ben Stiller, set for Christmas Day. Samuel Goldwyn, John Goldwyn, Stuart Cornfeld and Ben Stiller produce the film.

Also for Christmas, the studio will shift WALKING WITH DINOSUARS from October 11 to December 20, 2013. The film is based on the massively successful TV series and live show, which has grossed more than $250 million in box office worldwide.
‪‪
‪‪Other 2013 dates include the following: PERCY JACKSON: SEA OF MONSTERS, based on Rick Riordan’s publishing phenomenon, goes out August 16, 2013, moving from March 15. And Fox earlier announced that Beyoncé Knowles would headline the voice cast of EPIC, in theaters May 24, 2013, from the makers of “Ice Age” and “Rio.” The film was previously known as “Leafmen.” Also joining the cast are Josh Hutcherson, Amanda Seyfried, Johnny Knoxville, Aziz Ansari, Jason Sudeikis, Steven Tyler, Blake Anderson and Judah Friedlander. ‪‪

Lastly, an as-yet-untitled comedy starring Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy, directed by Paul Feig (BRIDESMAIDS) will land in theaters April 5, 2013.

In the climactic conclusion of the Fringe Season Four finale, the team is pushed to their breaking point as they desperately attempt to prevent a catastrophic event that threatens the lives of everyone.

Last night was the time for the fourth season of Fringe to get to an end, but did it delivered what the season was building up? Well, this fourth season was excellent in the beginning, we had Peter coming back after he had disappearing in the end of season three, and now, he returned to a different timeline, it was not the one he used to know, he had to get the trust and love from the people who used to be close to him, Walter and Olivia mainly, which was not an easy task. The season was going good until the half, Peter was trying to get back at his own timeline, David Robert Jones, who originally appeared on the first season and eventually died, was back, but this time with new plans, and this was his version from “Over There”. Right, but then the season started losing the main point, Olivia eventually became the one from Peter’s timeline, because of the cortexiphan on her, and because of Peter influence too, and eventually, with his Olivia back at his side, and now with the trust of the people who he used to know, Peter saw that this was his timeline… and you fan thought that they would try to get him back at his timeline.

But lets stop talking about the whole season itself, lets focus on the season finale. The actual David R. Jones plot was revealed eventually, he wanted to collapse both universes to create a new one, but it happens that he was not the guy behing this master plan after all… SURPRISE! William Bell was behind this whole destruction plot, the guy who Walter admired, his best friend, wanted to destroy two universes to create a new one. We had all this being revealed in the episode before this one, with also another factor: Astrid getting shot, and then after the team finds her, she rapidly recovers(isn’t that something?).

The episode starts well, with Bell showing to Walter how beautiful his new universe can be, and it has both of them arguing about the whole creation method, about the “god complex” situation they’re facing, and it a fantastic display of great acting by both John Noble and Leonard Nimoy. Yeah, but not everything is gold on this episode, which compared to the seasons two and three finales, is really weak, it has a storyline which was building up in a good pace, but here it eventually rushes too much, also there are too much people dying and coming back(the scene in which they resurrect Jessica is one of the best scenes in the episode though, because it has great creepy elements, and takes Olivia to the edge of her powers), and mostly, things were to easy here, barely there was any difficulties for the team, specially because it ended up being so easy finding Bell’s location. Not to forget, Bell was using Olivia to collide the universes, yes the whole cortexiphan experiments had this objective after all, and the solution to end this was Walter shooting her in the head, but they saved her and everyone lived happily ever after… or not!

Well, the episodes ends with Olivia pregnant, we see that the Fringe division will now have an increased funding, but then the Observer September appears to Walter and tells to him: “They’re coming”, and now we can only expect that the whole plot in which the Observers take over the world will eventually be explored in the upcoming fifth and final season.

With good moments, and mostly weak and rushed parts, this season finale doesn’t deliver the same good quality as the finales of seasons two and three did, but is still decent, it surely makes the fans satisfied.

Marvel is riding high with the slew of movies they have coming out (Avengers May 4!) and the stuff we’ve heard teased, but don’t forget that Fox owns some of the characters from the Marvel Universe. X-Men and Wolverine to name only two. We know that a First Class sequel and another Wolverine movie are well underway, but Fox is now hinting another superhero team may be coming to the big screen sometime soon.

Collider had a chance to talk to Fox CEO Tom Rothman at CinemaCon about what could be coming down the pipeline for Fox’s next attempt to develop a new superhero film franchise.

I know you guys have New Mutants and a lot of characters in the X-Men universe. Obviously you guys are moving forward on an X-Men sequel, you’re moving forward on Wolverine, do you envision New Mutants or some of these other characters as franchises that the door can be open to? It does seem to me that the superhero genre is bigger than it’s ever been, and you guys have some of the crown jewels.

Rothman: (smiles) Yes.

When can fans expect an announcement on some of these other properties? Before Comic-Con, after Comic-Con, at Comic-Con?

Rothman: In the summer.

Are you talking to filmmakers right now?

Rothman: Let me just say this. All I have to say is, I agree with you in your assessment of the potential in a lot of these characters.

Well, it seems we’ll be hearing something pretty soon. Collider stated that Rothman was all smiles when New Mutants was brought up, and all but confirmed an announcement was coming. If you notice, he said this summer and by the tone it seems it will be before Comic-Con. We’ll have to keep our ear to the ground and wait for the official announcement.

And just in case you aren’t familiar with the New Mutants, here is the ever reliable Wikipedia with a brief rundown of what it is:

The New Mutants are a group of teenaged mutant superheroes-in-training published by Marvel Comics. They have been the main characters of three successive comic book series, which were spin-offs of the popular X-Men franchise.

The first team of New Mutants characters was created by Chris Claremont (long-time writer of Uncanny X-Men) and artist Bob McLeod; although the concept for a “X-Men-in-training team” was originated by Uncanny X-Men artist John Byrne in a letter he wrote to Claremont in 1978. They first appeared in 1982′s Marvel Graphic Novel #4 and were subsequently featured in their own title from 1983 until 1991. Also, like its parent title, The New Mutants highlighted interpersonal and group conflict as well as action and adventure, and featured a large ensemble cast. With the end of the first series, the characters were relaunched as X-Force in a new, eponymous series.

The second New Mutants series, launched in 2003, featured a new group of teenage mutants; but unlike the original New Mutants, they were only part of a huge cast of students at the Xavier Institute. At first, they were notable for their drive to become superheroes, but soon rival internal groups played a large role in the series. In 2004, it was relaunched as New X-Men: Academy X, after which the central group was formally dubbed the “New Mutants.” In the aftermath of the “M-Day” crossover storyline in late 2005, the remaining students were merged into one junior team, the New X-Men.

The third New Mutants series, reuniting most of the original team, launched in May 2009.

My bet is this is some licensing dispute with Fox, the studio that currently owns the rights to the Fantastic Four. After all, they bought the rights to a ton of characters in the late 90′s, among which was probably Super-Skrull and his minions. So, to avoid a dispute with Fox, Marvel has decided to change the name of their baddies… but they can change the name to whatever they want, we all know that they’re still Skrulls.

Or are they?

Who do you think they are?

The report, titled ‘Relaunched Comics Using Sex and Violence to Sell’, condemned the publisher’s “edgy makeover” of its superheroes for its ‘New 52‘ initiative, and dubbed its titles “fictionalised Playboy for kids at its worst”.

Fox correspondent Sherri Ly sought the opinion of child psychologist Neil Bernstein on the issue, who hit out at the controversial sex scene in Catwoman #1, and the portrayal of women in Red Hood and the Outlaws #1.

“Love has nothing to do with it,”

he said, discussing the depiction of casual sex in the comics.

“We want our kids to think sex is an act between two consenting mature individuals who care deeply for one another.

“That doesn’t really come across and it’s too easy to misconstrue things, particularly for a kid.”

DC has previously defended both comics. In September, the publisher warned parents to pay “attention to the ratings when picking out any books to read themselves or for their children” in response to criticism of Red Hood and the Outlaws.

Catwoman writer Judd Winick said that his version of the title character reflects

“someone who lives in our times”.
