We just received the Hot Toys/Sideshow Collectibles Exclusive 1/6th Scale Superman, which pays great tribute to Christopher Reeve. This interpretation of my favorite Superman films is near perfect in the head sculpt of Christopher Reeve.

The Hot Toys and Sideshow Collectibles Exclusive 12-inch Superman comes with all the accessories as the regular version, plus a Kryptonite neck chain. Just as we mentioned in our Hot Toys 12-inch Batman-Bruce Wayne (Batsuit Begins) review, we were hesitant to open this one because of how I have always been with my toys. I am realizing now though, there are things I miss in not opening a great piece like this.

Hot Toys creates amazing packaging in all of their products, but I have to say that they topped this themselves in the Superman. I love that they chose to create packaging surrounding one of the most iconic symbols in the world, the Superman symbol. The packaging is very sturdy and high quality to assure a well protected Superman figure inside.

Hot Toys always gives credit where it is due in the designers and creators of their products with a great insert of the team that helped create the Superman. Once you lift that insert, there is then a great piece that says, “In Memory of Christopher Reeve”. I felt this was a great honor to him and his family.

As you can see, the packaging is amazing and the 12-inch Superman is well protected. The figure could be displayed just like this with the open window to show the accessories that are included, but I had to release him to see it out of the package.

Wow! This is all I can really say about this piece. The Superman is incredible with an amazing likeness to the late Christopher Reeve. Hot Toys details to the person’s likeness can not be matched. Their head sculpts are sometimes scary because of how lifelike they really are, especially to the eyes.

The Superman costume includes a one piece blue costume with the Superman logo on his chest, a yellow belt, an amazing red cape with the symbol of course, red boots and his red shorts. This may be one of the last times we will see Superman in his red shorts as we will ever know of him. They are three pair of hands to pose him in many different ways. The articulation in this piece allows you to pose him in hundreds of different ways.

The Sideshow Collectibles and Hot Toys Exclusive Kryptonite neck chain. Kryptonite is Superman’s ultimate physical weakness. This piece is terrific and lifelike with the great emerald like glow.

I was already satisfied in the accessories and the Superman alone, but this piece also includes the Fortress of Solitude themed figure stage along with a great figure stand with a Superman nameplate and movie logo. The Fortress of Solitude is a true compliment to the figure.

Overall, the Hot Toys and Sideshow Collectibles 12-inch Superman is a masterpiece in every way from the great packaging, which is taken from his iconic symbol to the amazing likeness and memory of Christopher Reeve’s Superman.

This piece is actually still available through Sideshow Collectibles and ready to ship!

We have always been fans of Sideshow Collectibles products from their Premium Format statues, dioramas, and 12-inch figure lines. We are huge Star Wars fans, but we are also comic book fans. Sideshow Collectibles and Hot Toys have had a great collaboration for sometime now and what better than to create an amazing DC Comics line. We love Sideshow Collectibles 12-inch figures, but Hot Toys produces the best because of their amazing detail and accessories that are included.

The Sideshow Collectibles and Hot Toys recently released a 12-inch Batman-Bruce Wayne (Batman Begins) Batsuit figure exclusively through their website and at the Asia Toy Fair. We have never purchased a 12-inch Batman before, so what better way then to order this piece. The pictures were amazing and I have always wanted to own some of Hot Toys products. We recently received the figure and I had to open it to take some pictures. I like my toys in their packages, but I wanted to release this one into the open.

The packaging is great with the box displaying Batman’s full gear climbing harness and his utility belt. The box is sturdy and you should be assured that your investment will be well protected inside.

The packaging inside is amazing and a great display without ever happening to open it up. An insert is included to tell us who the creative team was who created this masterpiece. Batman’s cape and his utility belt were kept separate and packed very well. In the main compartment, we see the amazing details that Hot Toys puts into their products with Christian Bale‘s likeness as Bruce Wayne and the accessories included.

Many great accessories are included such as Batman and his Cowl, a couple of extra interchangeable lower face sections to change his many expressions he displays in the movie (Really?), interchangeable hands to hold his utility belt items, Grapnel gun, Cape, Ninja mask and much more. We wanted to stop here, but we were already further than I normally like to be with my toys.

We had no choice now, but to start playing with the accessories and seeing how good this figure really was. The articulation and details are incredible in all of the accessories and the gear climbing harness. The interchangeable hands are great for posing and holding the many weapons that are included in Batman’s utility belt.

It was now time for Bruce Wayne to become Batman. We removed the climbing gear harness and attached his utility belt. The next piece that was rather very difficult to put on was the Cape. It is very tight and you are required to place Batman and his Cowl on top of the cape. Be very careful when doing so, which was frustrating.

Finally, Batman is in full gear! The cape is terrific and it can be moved in many ways. I have only one suggestion for Hot Toys to maybe try next time for Batman, by actually adding some kind of wire to allow you to really display the cape in many poses.

Is this what Batman would look like if Bruce Wayne got lazy to create the Cowl? We had to give it a shot.

Overall, we really enjoy this piece and we are very pleased with how amazing Hot Toys truly is as a company. The details and articulation they have put into this Bruce Wayne-Batman figure is awesome. The packaging was great to assure a mint figure, great accessories, the detailing is so lifelike and it is Batman! Other, than the difficulty of putting on the cape and cowl, I would say this piece is outstanding. Hot Toys recently acquired the rights to the Dark Knight Rises, so be prepared to see even more of their impressive line, including a large scaled Tumbler!

Not suitable for young children. The online service, based in the United Kingdom, prohibits the items to be sold to American buyers. Though, the figures can be obtained through several comic book speciality stores in the United States.

While they have been around for quite some time, i think its worthwile to review and talk about them a bit. I have started my collection a couple of months ago and find myself very pleased with it.

These things are pretty standard. The first one is five pounds, and then all the others are thirteen pounds. You start collecting on the basis that it can’t go on for too long, and finish after two years when the get to number 120. Or more likely cancel around number 104 and never finish the set. Total investment two hundred pounds, or four hundred dollars US. Of course, there’s also a plastic base to send away for too, and a ring binder to hold those precious issues!

The figures themselves are actually not bad quality. Of course, while i will collect the figures, i have no intention to subscribing! The cast is nice and detailed, and clean. The painting is nicely done too, presumably painted by children in Malaysia working for twenty cents a day, but they’ve done a nice job – thanks kids.

The material inside is pretty reasonable. The text writer isn’t credited, though most of the art is credited to its original creator, which is nice. I presume Marvel has a stock library that it makes available to guys like this. I’d like to know who the writer was and where they’re getting their source material. There’s fourteen pages of text and illustrations, and a two-page centrefold poster of the cover of ASM #122.

Included with issue #1 is a smaller booklet “Introducing the Classic Marvel Figurine Collection” which consists mostly of a four-page gatefold poster listing the 85 figures which I presume are to be included in the set, and describes a little of the process of creating the figures. It’s essentially a promo blurb for the series.

In General…

What you see is what you get. I presume that this will appeal both to hardcore collectors but also to middle-aged Marvel fans who spot this at their newsagent and get sucked up into buying the entire run, only to have their wife insist that it not live in the living room, and eventually see it relegated to two cardboard boxes in the basement.
