Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, or AAA for the sake of everyone writing about him, may have said a little too much in a recent interview about his role as Kurse/Algrim in Thor: The Dark World for Marvel’s liking, but the actor said enough to get fans excited to see him do battle against Thor and Loki. The actor has been campaigning for another Marvel role long before joining up for Thor. AAA has had his eye on Black Panther for years, and hopes his turn in Thor can help get him in Marvel’s good graces. The actor recently commented on a potential Black Panther movie:

Who do I want to play him? Myself, let’s be real. I would hope that playing Kurse would ingratiate me to becoming the Panther. You get in and have success in one, and you go and do the next one. [My campaign] is definitely not dropped.

He’s one of my faves. I would love to play him. You have to keep at it, you have to keep your card in the hat and see what comes out but I have to say I’m thrilled, I’ve been able to play two characters in one movie and if [Marvel] likes this and it this does well, it just gives you a better chance.

While he’s eager to tackle the Prince of Wakanda, that doesn’t mean he didn’t enjoy his time on the Alan Taylor directed Thor sequel. AAA talked about working on Kurse’s backstory and look with the director and crew:

I didn’t actually know an awful lot about that character and when I did my research in the comics there wasn’t an awful lot. But with the director and myself, we sat down and looked at what was traditionally known as Kurse and we tried to put our spin on it. There was quite a bit of creative license in how I would interpret him but the wardrobe, the setting, they were phenomenal. When I set into that outfit, I was Kurse. The did such an amazing job it made my job so easy. There were all these different factions, a different person was making the helmet, a different person making the arms, they all came together prior to the shoot, but in terms of my research before I didn’t do an awful lot but once I got into the outfit it set it off. I think the fans are going to be pleased.

Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje can be a big and menacing figure, so it will be exciting to see how he brings Kurse to life in The Dark World. With all the make-up and prosthetics required for Kurse, the fact he has already been in a Marvel movie won’t be as big a concern as with other actors. A Black Panther movie has been rumored for a while. Hopefully it’s just a matter of time until we see it happen, maybe Phase 3 who knows. Adewale pops up occasionally when names are being thrown out for the Black Panther role, but some think he may too physically big of a man to bring T’Challa to life. What do you think? Could you see AAA bringing T’Challa to the big screen?

After a day full of teases and trying to get Twitter in a frenzy, Latino Review’s El Mayimbe revealed that the film Marvel will announce during ComicCon to go with Captain America in 2014 will be the King of Wakanda himself- T’Challa. That’s right, it appears The Black Panther is going to be making it to the big screen. Here’s what Latino Review had to say:

THE BLACK PANTHER is going to headline his own film!

How do I know? Let’s say I got it from FOUR different trusted sources.

Marvel is going BIG TIME after the urban film audience and I applaud them for that. Last year, it was reported that Marvel hired Mark Bailey to pen the script and I hear the script is fantastic.

The clues were always there. They showed Wakanda on the map in Iron Man 2 and Captain America’s shield is made from Vibranium which also hails from Wakanda. The Black Panther has a long development history which at one point had Wesley Snipes attached to star. Marvel got the rights back to the character in 2005.

Because there’s no official announcement, take it with a grain of salt. But on the other hand, the site is usually pretty reliable when it comes to Marvel scoops so this one is probably on the up-and-up. As they stated, the groundwork for several Marvel characters was laid down in Iron Man 2. With the little bit of set-up that has been completed, the payoff may come in 2014. The Black Panther may be making it in time for The Avengers 2, who knows? Many actors have said they wanted to play T’Challa, but it probably won’t be too long before we find out who snags the role. Who do you think should be the king?
