The original Batmobile from the 1960s Adam West series sold just a little while ago at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction. The car was the first one built by the legendary George Barris out of a Lincoln Futura. It had been on display in Hollywood for a while, but Barris finally decided to part ways with his creation. The decision came down to a coin flip according to Barris.

The car has been the talk of the auction world this week as some experts predicted the ride would go for a few million dollars. When the gavel finally landed, the car sold for an astounding $4.2 million. The car was brought out and followed by what can only be described as a mob trying to get close to the famous auto. Bidding hit a million as soon as it started, with the action going on for several minutes. George Barris was on hand to help entice bidders as well. Before the final bid was placed Barris took the Batman jacket off of his back and offered it to the winning bidder as an added incentive. The man who won the auction was Rick Champagne from Arizona. He said he would put the Batmobile in his living room and display it proudly.

The winner, his lady friend, and George Barris posed with the car shortly after the auction ended (via Barrett On Speed’s Twitter page). The Speed channel also posted a video chat with Barris about the famous car earlier today. Check out pictures from the auction and the video below. I was watching on TV and the whole thing was a pretty amazing sight. What do you think? Is the Batmobile worth $4.2 million to you?

If you’ve been keeping up with Scott Snyder’s Twitter page, you know the writer has declared war on horses by abusing his powers as Batman head writer. The scribe has killed a total of three horses in the pages of his Death of the Family arc, and countless others which were probably graciously cut by DC’s editorial staff. Mr. Snyder has had The Joker shoot a horse in the face in a backup story, set a horse ablaze to run down the halls of Arkham Asylum, and finally had Mr. Freeze freeze and then punch a horse into little horse bits. This man has repeatedly dodged questions on Twitter as to why he hates horses so much. He has flippantly stated the following:

A horse shot my parents in an alley when i was a young boy. RT @shaunh22: @ssnyder1835 Why don’t you like horses?

— Scott Snyder (@Ssnyder1835) January 16, 2013

A horse shot my Uncle Ben. RT @juventuz: @ssnyder1835 Read Batman 16 finally, you got something against horses? — Scott Snyder (@Ssnyder1835) January 17, 2013

As a boy, I thought a horse killed my father. He was my father RT @broughstuff: Batman #16 was awesome, but what’s snyder got against horses — Scott Snyder (@Ssnyder1835) January 17, 2013

I hate horses. RT @taitanorules555: @ssnyder1835 do you hate horses because why did you make freeze kill a freaking horse? — Scott Snyder (@Ssnyder1835) January 18, 2013

Mr. Snyder continues to avoid answering the hard hitting question of why he dislikes horses. The writer seems to have a personal vendetta against our equine friends. Where does this deep-seated hatred come from? One could not venture to guess, but we have obtained this footage of someone taking their hatred from the land of fantasy to the reality. Is that Scott Snyder punching a horse in the face? It’s not for us to say, but it does look like him doesn’t it?

GIFSoup

Mr. Snyder continues to taunt fans about horse hatred. Earlier today he sent out the link to the following Amazon review [click to see larger image] through is personal Twitter. This man must be stopped before more fictional horses are destroyed. I propose a petition to prevent Mr. Snyder from ever writing a My Little Pony book. Just think what he would do to them?! *if you can’t tell, this is an article in the style of The Onion making fun of the supposed horse controversy and the gif is from Blazing Saddles.

Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo brought the high heat with Batman #16 released yesterday. The Joker is reaching the conclusion of his deadly game as he lures Batman into his final trap. Assembling all of Batman’s deadliest rogues together to form the court of the Bat King, Joker is finally ready to give Batman the feast he’s been promising. Batman #17 will bring everything to an end. Scott Snyder has been making the rounds today talking about the sure to be shocking conclusion.

Of course the Batman scribe gave nothing big away, but he did whet fans appetites for the big finale:

I can tell you there are definitely some insane moments in the conclusion and some crazy things happen so, I’ve always been braced for it as something that isn’t designed to just shock for the sake of shocking, but is the culmination of the story in a way that feels organic and surprising. I can’t remember who it was, but I had a teacher that gave me a writing quote when I was a student that said ‘Every ending should be both inevitable and totally surprising,’ and I completely believe that. Hopefully this is an ending that feels organic to the story we’ve been telling, and when you get there you’ll say ‘I can’t believe this just happened,’ and at the same time, you’ll feel that it’s a cumulative, horrible thing out of everything that’s been going on.

It’s hard to imagine with a title like Death of the Family that everyone is going to make it out in one piece. While the story won’t conclude the Batman line, it does have some parallels to Dan Slott’s Spider-Man #700. Snyder recalls joking about the conclusion with his friend Slott:

I was actually joking on the phone with Dan Slott after “Spider-Man” #700. I was telling him how I felt so bad because it sounded like things got crazy for him, and he said, “Wait until you get to ‘Batman’ #17! You’ll have the same.” So honestly, maybe I will go be in a bunker somewhere the day that issue comes out. But I believe in the ending very strongly. I believe in the story beat we’re headed towards.

Two pages of Greg Capullo’s art have also been released to hype up the highly anticipated finale. Issue #16 was an absolute treat. The two page spread featuring the “throne room” was stunning. What do you think will happen in the final pages of Death of the Family?

Ridley Scott and the cast of Prometheus talked a little about the movie. Nothing very revealing, the movie is still shrouded in mystery.

It comes out June 8th, but we still know very little and are likely to learn little more before then. At Wondercon this weekend, Scott and Co. presented the new trailer (which was previously posted on CBT as you can see by clicking here). The Hollywood Reporter states that Scott came out to a scattered standing ovation for the panel. Throughout the presentation, Scott sidestepped any connection with his previous movies Alien. When talking about writing Prometheus Scott said:

It evolved into another universe. If we’re lucky, there’ll be a second part. It does leave you with some nice open questions.

Scott also touched on how visual effects have changed since the first Alien movie where a man in a rubber suit played the big bad alien. “Today you can pretty much do anything you want. We’re almost action-filmed out, almost science fiction-filmed out, so the baseline question is: how original are you going to be.”

One of the stars of the film, Charlize Theron said that remaining tight lipped about Prometheus will be the closes she and the crew will feel to CIA spies.

Adding a sour note to the panel, fans left disappointed because Scott and crew didn’t take any questions from the audience. They instead took questions that were supposedly from Twitter. The Hollywood Reporter states that it appeared to be designed to avoid unwanted fan questions.

Plot: A team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.

Prometheus is scheduled for release in the USA on June 8, 2012 through 20th Century Fox. The film will be simultaneously released in IMAX theaters in 3D

The Prometheus trailer is packed with Easter eggs that die-hard fans of the mythology surrounding the acid-bleeding xenomorphs should find extremely exciting. Check it out!

wolverinept, Prometheus Trailer Packed With Easter Eggs For The Fans

What started off as a prequel to Alien supposedly changed over time in to a completely different project, that maybe shares some “DNA” with the 1979 sci-fi classic, but not much. When the trailer came out yesterady I think I have to call “BS” on these comments.

Now we know that everyone’s favourite xenomorph isn’t going to rear it’s drooling shiny dome in Ridley Scott’s ‘Prometheus‘, Scott’s made that crystal clear. But he does clearly feel there’s lots more to the ‘Alien‘ universe to explore, and while he and his cast have been keen to let us know that ‘Prometheus‘ will take place in the same universe as ‘Alien‘, the new trailer suggests that this is very much a prequel to the sci-fi classic. Lets take at look at the clues laid bare in the new footage:

The Title Card

First up that famous ‘Alien‘ title card is teased. This may only be for the trailer, but it’s an up front and in your face clue from Scott as to the nature of this movie. The Prometheus title reveals itself letter-by-letter just as the revered ‘Alien‘ title-card did back in 1979, the half planet motif is also echoed.

Alien Title Card 1979

The Space Jockey

Now for the BIG clues, namely that space jockey chap. First up the crew of Prometheus are scanning something that looks suspiciously like the space jockey’s helmet/skull.., take a look.

Prometheus Space Jockey Head?

A closer look to what could be the Space Jockey head

Space Jockey head 1979

Next up the man himself, or at least the gun/weapon/telescope type thing that we first saw his corpse sitting upon when John Hurt and co first boarded that crashed space-craft all those years ago.

Space Jockey weapon 1979

And what about this:

Space Jockey in official released image

Here it is brightened up to better show off the “space jockey” suits/Noomi Rapace’s Keanu Reeves face.

Hello there you!!

Eagle eyed fans over at AVP Galaxy noticed a bald headed being in what looks like a biomechanical outfit under the “S” in the ‘Prometheus’ title in the trailer. Can this be Space Jockey’s true form? Look closely at his head and notice he resembles the face of the “God” monument the crew comes across in the ampule room shown in the official movie poster and trailers:

Prometheus Space Jockey Close Up

The Derelict Crashed Space-Ship

Speaking of the crashed space-craft that featured heavily in ‘Alien‘ and ‘Aliens‘, here it is.., crashing.

The Derelict crashing 2011

Crashed Derelict 1979

Prometheus Derelict vs Alien Derelict

So undeniable facts that this is not just a film which takes part in the same fictional universe as ‘Alien‘ but rather this takes place on the very same planet (LV-462 as James Cameron would later name it) and the very same location. The big question now is when it takes place in relation to ‘Alien‘ and why oh why if we’re seeing everything else will we not see the famous creature?

Saying that, Scott said no xenomorph, he didn’t say anything about the eggs or facehuggers.

Speaking of Facehuggers/Chestburster:

chestburster or something else entirely?

We can’t exactly see who it his but based on the image above we can assume that some kind of experiment is going to take place. Just look at the state of Noomi Rapace/Elizabeth Shaw:

Noomi Rapace got in some trouble

Oh and if you were in any further doubt that this is an Alien prequel, take a look at that end title card.., produced by Walter Hill and David Giler who legally must be titled as producers on any and all Alien movies (including the crappy AVP films).., in this case likely to be because of ‘characters based on those from the movie Alien‘ type deal.

And what to say about our favorite Corporation?

The Weyland-Yutani Corporation

With their logo branded all over the vehicles, equipment and Idris Elba’s t-shirt in trailer, it strongly suggests that Ridley Scott plans on keeping the theme that humanity’s worst enemy is often itself.

As you can see from the shots above and from the trailer below , Prometheus won’t be taking anyone to their happy place. We’ve got faces boiling, people screaming, ships doing scary ship things, people leaping off ledges and Noomi being sucked out of an airlock.

Someone, please, make the bad man (or woman, or alien?) stop!

Are you excited about “Prometheus”, do you think it will live up to the “Alien” that we all love and care about? Let us know!
