We have character profile pics, a shot of Joss Whedon doing his thing, and a Twitter pick from Marvel Chief Creative Office Joe Quesada getting punched out by Clark Gregg. Cody "The Thorverine" Ferrell, ABC Schedules Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. For Tuesdays; New Images Released

Along with the trailer trumpeting Agent Coulson’s revival, a new viral site for the show has launched. WeAreTheRisingTide.com (click here to visit the site) went online earlier today and it features several very short videos of some Marvel heroes and villains in action. Most of the clips are cut from the movies Iron Man 2 and The Incredible Hulk. As we learned from the synopsis, tracking down the hacker group Rising Tide is going to be the S.H.I.E.L.D. team’s first mission in the pilot. The site is interesting and we should definitely keep an eye on it to see what they will release next. Check out the promo below, click over to the viral site, and sound off below with your thoughts. The banner above, the full cast picture in HD, and the article’s icon you see on the homepage were official Facebook account for the show. The character ID badges were rolled out by the SHIELD TV fansite. The image of Skye is particularly interesting though. ABC prematurely released a 7 second teaser video for the show featuring footage from The Incredible Hulk where Abomination was smashing some cars. The lower right hand corner of the video had a “RISING TIDE” icon. As you can read in the official synopsis, Skye the hacker is one of S.H.I.E.L.D.‘s first cases.  What do you think of the new material? Are you excited for the preview tomorrow?

Season 2 of Ultimate Spider-Man is set to debut on Disney XD on January 21 at 6/7C. With Electro set as the villain for the sequel to the Amazing Spider-Man movie, it looks like both he and the Lizard will be introduced in the premiere. Marvel’s other new animated series Avengers Assemble will also have a few crossovers with the series. It’s great that they will have an animated universe that’s all inclusive of the Marvel Universe.

Set your DVR’s now because January 21 isn’t too far away. After the premiere, the series will resume airing at its regular time on Sunday mornings (perfect time for watching cartoons).

On his journey to become the Ultimate Hero, Peter Parker has handled tough challenges. From learning to team up with fellow Super Heroes (including The Avengers!), to fighting baddies from across the Marvel Universe, to remembering to pick up groceries for Aunt May, Spidey thought he had things all webbed up.  Now in Season 2, his world’s been turned upside down as his teammates become roommates, and they’re left to face foes without the help of S.H.I.E.L.D. wolverinept, Brand New Trailer For ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN Season 2 Released

First up Whedon said that he has an outline in place and that the Avengers 2 script should be done “in a couple months.” With the origin story of the super group out of the way, Whedon says he can now go deeper into the characters…with a scalpel to cause pain:

Don’t go bigger; go deeper. All of these people have met, so you have that out of the way. Now you can spend your time just digging in — and by digging in, I mean with a scalpel, to cause pain.

After that ominous statement Whedon switched gears and touched on the rest of the Marvel Universe. While he hasn’t seen a rough cut of Iron Man 3 yet he has read most of the scripts for the films coming up. You know things like Thor, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Ant-Man, and Guardians of the Galaxy. Nothing too big. The director says he tries not to get in the way of the other writers and directors:

I read all the scripts and I give notes on everything. I’ll look at cuts when they’re ready to show me. I’ll talk to directors if they want to. I try to make myself useful without being intrusive. I’ve gotten to be a part of all of them. That’s a dream job for a kid like me.

Whedon’s next project is directing the S.H.I.E.L.D. pilot next week, then it’s full steam ahead with The Avengers. The writer has said several times that he wants to make a smaller, personal film for the sequel and it sounds like he’s already working out how to do that. What do you think? Cody "The Thorverine" Ferrell, Joss Whedon On Avengers 2 And Being The Marvel Godfather

There is no question that it is part of the Marvel Universe. In fact, the story takes place after the battle for New York. This is S.H.I.E.L.D. They’re following their own particular stories. There are characters in it, Coulson, who clearly come from Avengers. So it’s part of the world, but we’re going to be very, very careful that we don’t tread on the toes of the features and build a whole new world. And that’s what Joss Whedon does better than anybody else. He’s built a world for us.

This opens up a new round of speculation since we know Clark Gregg’s Agent Phil Coulson will be a major player in the show. Will we see flashbacks? A Coulson computer program? Did he really survive Loki’s fatal blow? We’ll have to wait and see. One of the other questions surrounding the series is if Marvel will us it as a launching pad for smaller Marvel Universe characters. Lee didn’t rule out that possibility:

I think if we’re lucky enough to have a great series, we’re obviously having fun with that. At this point though, we have a number of characters at the heart of the script who are real characters, who are the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and the first task is to make those guys great and relatable and everything that a great show needs. Beyond that, fingers crossed!

In another interview today with MTV, Marvel godfather Joss Whedon talked about the show as well. The writer and director talked about how the show is more than an average cop show, it’s a character piece (like most of his shows):

[We start filming] a week from Tuesday. You have to bring a bit of spectacle to [S.H.I.E.L.D.]; it’s got to be bigger than your average cop show. But at the end of the day, it’s about the peripheral people. It’s about the people on the edges of the grand adventures. The whole point of the show is that even with all these big things, the little things matter. It’s about people who don’t have super powers. There will be some people with powers, there will be FX, and there will be the spectacle of science-fiction storytelling — but all played on a very human, small level. That’s the appeal of the thing.

So there you have it. One week until filming starts and we know a little bit more about the show. It will be later this year before the pilot airs if ABC decides to pick it up for series. With all the big names behind it and the money being put into it, I would find it hard to believe ABC would pass on it unless something major happens. What do you think Whedonites? Toward the late ’90s, before the success of Blade and the X-Men films that would boost the real image adaptations from comic books, a failure was created for everyone’s collection: “Nick Fury: Agent of SHIELD , “starring the iconic star of two of the biggest shows ever on TV, “Knight Rider” and “Baywatch”, the one and only David Hasselhoff. With a flap in his eye and cigar in his mouth!

Nick Fury came to the Hoff when he was looking for an exit from Baywatch. “Baywatch Nights” has just laid a giant steaming turd in syndication and The Hoff’s main character Mitch Buchanan was being phased out of the main series. Hoff was looking for a change.

In this 1998 TV movie, which did have a clause to be turned into a series if successful, Hoff plays retired Col. Nick Fury who has seen the greatest missions of his life pass him by.

But when his arch-nemesis’s body is stolen from a secure facility, Nick is called back into action.

Think Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Commando with a Marvel comics twist.

The movie is written by David S. Goyer who wrote this movie the same year as the “Blade” franchise was launched and the cult classic “Dark City” was released. Both movies Mr. Goyer also wrote.

Goyer would go on to reboot the “Batman” franchise with Christopher Nolan almost a decade later with the awesome “Batman Begins”.

What people seem to forget when it comes to this film is that it is extremely loyal to the source material and in some ways feels like a pre-cursor to the new Marvel movement. You see, previous Marvel films had been disasters and the properties seemed cursed with films like 1989′s The Punisher, 1990′s Captain America, 1986′s Howard the Duck, etc. It wasn’t until really the success of “Blade” and Sony’s 2002 Spider-Man film that it all slowly started to change.

In 1997, when Goyer sat down to write both Blade and Nick Fury he really dove into the source material. A comic fan himself he knew that if you stay close to the source then the concept will work.

When I actually sat down and revisited Nick Fury, I was shocked. The movie isn’t really all that bad. You have Nick Fury facing off against Baron Von Strucker (well, his twisted offspring). It is a vintage SHIELD vs. Hydra struggle.

The movie was on a really restrictive budget but you also get the Helli-Carrier, SHIELD gadgets and vehicles.  The Hoff buts heads with his love interest played by soap vet Lisa Rinna.

Like all action films of this vain, you have silly one-liners and some macho dialogue but really nothing strays far from Fury’s hard demeanor we all know from the comics.

The Hoff’s performance as Fury is a mixture of all the macho men of action he has played over the years. If you can get over the idea of him playing this character then the film isn’t that bad. Actually even surprising in parts.

One of those surprising things is that Hasselhoff’s performance is actually the most subdued of the cast. Sandra Hess’s performance as the daughter of Von Strucker is just plain ridiculous.

This movie is better than any of those other cursed Marvel projects I mentioned before. A series could have even been interesting especially if it could have landed a syndicated deal like Hasselhoff’s Baywatch.

It is not as bad as you might think.

Comic Book Therapy, Full Theatrical Trailer For The Avengers Officially Released!

 EW had he opportunity to talk with Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Tom Hiddleston, Stellan Skarsgård and Samuel L. Jackson and asked them how they’ll interact with one another. Here’s a few excerpts:

“The other day we were doing this big reveal shot of all the Avengers. Thor has got his hammer, Cap’s got his shield, Hawkeye has his bow and arrow, and Hulk is huge. Then it pans over to me and I’ve got guns. Iron Man’s like, hovering above all of us, ready to go,”

says Scarlett Johansson.

“I was like, ‘Joss… um… do I look okay holding these guns?’”

Whedon’s response reassured her:

“She’s a total badass. She’s a killing machine.”

Mark Ruffalo described his character in the film, Bruce Banner,as a loose cannon.

“No one wants to set him off except for Iron Man… who just wants to see him pop. It’s funny, there’s a really cool dynamic between Tony Stark and Banner. Banner actually enjoys it, and finds it really refreshing. They’re a lot alike in a strange way. They’re both these kind of scientists who are mavericks, kind of renegades. Banner, for all his mild-mannered mythology, he’s still the dude who was testing some pretty crazy s–t on himself, so he has that rebel streak in him.”

Chris Evans confirmed that the Steve Rogers we will see in The Avengers will be a darker, cynical version after we last saw him in World War II.

“It’s just about him trying to come to terms with the modern world. You’ve got to imagine, it’s enough of a shock to accept the fact that you’re in a completely different time, but everybody you know is dead. Everybody you cared about,”

Evans says.

“He was a soldier, obviously, everybody he went to battle with, all of his brothers in arms, they’re all dead. He’s just lonely. I think in the beginning it’s a fish out of water scene, and it’s tough. It’s a tough pill for him to swallow. Then comes trying to find a balance with the modern world.”

Comic Book Therapy, Entertainment Weekly Features The Avengers; First Official Photos Released!

This year’s Disney D23 Expo at the Anaheim Convention Center, hosted a panel for Marvel Studios’ upcoming movie The Avengers. With Samuel L. Jackson, Chris Evans, and Mark Ruffalo still filmingin Cleveland, Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Cobie Smulders, Jeremy Renner and Tom Hiddleston did the honors and presented everyone in attendance with 4 minutes of  amazing footage!

While much of the plot remains under wraps (look for an EW cover story next month to reveal First Look photos and exclusive details of the story), D23 attendees got to see snippets of two tense scenes between Nick Fury and Loki, and Iron Man alter-ego Tony Stark and the god-gone-wild.

The first sequence featured an imprisoned (or is he still somehow in control?) Loki, locked in a cylindrical glass and steel cell on board the S.H.I.E.L.D. hellicarrier.

“You try to escape you so much as scratch that glass …” Fury says, throwing a switch that opens a gaping vortex into a gray rainstorm. “30,000 feet, straight down in a steel trap.”

Loki smiles. “It’s an impressive cage, but not built for me.”

“Built for something a lot stronger than you,” Fury snaps back.

We cut to Smulders’ Agent Maria Hill watching the exchange on a monitor. The cage is meant for Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) when he Hulks out and needs a time-out. Loki seems to know all about this, and smirks: “How desperate are you, to call on such lost creatures to defend you?”

“How desperate am I?” Fury growls. “You threaten my world with war. You steel a force you can’t control. You talk about peace, but you kill because its fun… ”
Loki is unaffected. “It burns you to be so close,” he says. “To have the tesseract (that cosmic cube from Odin’s court that was the source of all the fighting in Captain America). To have power. And for what? A warm light for all mankind to share.” Loki’s smile fades: “Allow me to remind you of what real power is.”

Fury waves him off and descends some steel steps, leaving Loki alone in the empty chamber. “Well, let me know if ‘Real Power’ wants a magazine or something.”

Loki glowers at a camera monitoring him, and the movie cuts to Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner. “He really grows on you doesn’t he?”

The second scene is a conversation between Tony Stark and Loki, apparently… in Stark’s private bar? In any case, Tony’s having a drink.

“Let’s do a head count,” Stark says, as the camera cuts to shots of Renner and Johansson as Hawkeye and Black Widow. “Two world class assassins …”

Cut to Thor: “A demigod …”

Cut to Captain America: “A living legend who actually lives up to the legend …”
Now we’re back with Loki and Stark: “And you, big fella!” Stark says. “You’ve managed to piss off every single one of them!”

“I have an army,” Loki snarls.

Stark gets right in the villainous god’s face. “We have a Hulk.”

Boom! Commence cheering!
