Finally we got to see the Governor in action, and it didn’t disappoint. This episode “Walk With Me”, was only focused on Andrea, Michonne, Merle and The Governor. We got to take a look inside of Woodbury, and we got to witness how things run in there. We also got to see how charming the Governor really is, and how twisted and sick he also can be.

Fan of the comic will be jumping in joy when they see the final shot of the episode… wow!

The Governor (David Morrissey)

The Governor is the charismatic leader of Woodbury, a seemingly utopian community, barricaded behind walls, which he built from the ground up. He protects the citizens of Woodbury from walkers and provides them with shelter, food , clothing and perhaps most importantly, with a semblance of what it was like to live in the world before the dead began walking.

We also saw the return of Merle Dixon, and no it wasn’t a hallucination. Merle seems to do whatever the Governor tells him to do, but for how long? ure he is grateful that they found him and rescued him, but is he just a pawn of the Governor or does he have his own agenda?

Merle Dixon (Michael Rooker)

After overcoming a grisly hurdle only partially intact, Merle was taken under the wing of a strong figure: the Governor. At Woodbury, Merle’s combative nature has helped him to ascend the ranks to become the Governor’s second in command. Woodbury fits Merle like a glove, but Dixon blood runs deep. Where will his loyalties fall if he must choose between the two?

Michonne and Andrea are “rescued” by the Governor and his men (they are kind of ruthless, I wouldn’t give one of them not even a baseball bat) and taken to Woodbury. Once there, Andrea gets medical attention and they get to clean up and eat, for once it all feels normal, just like before.

We get to see Michonne a little uneasy about the whole situation, she knows something is up and doesn’t trust no one. Andrea on the other hand, seems to be enjoying this new place and finally feels safe after a long time.

This episode was good, not as epic as the past two, but still was a great way to introduce the Governor.

Now check out the making of episode 303 and a sneak peek at 304 :” Killer Within”

Tomorrow…..you won’t believe your eyes. It’s a season opener that will be talked about for generations to come. All I can say is that there is a TON of Walker action, and no I’m not talking about the Texas ranger. Also the ending of the episode will leave you wanting more an more. You will be so sad that is over. Do not miss it.

Fans have waited patiently for the prison to be introduced, well the time has come and it will be worth the wait.

AMC was kind enough to send us a press packet a few weeks back, which is totally awesome, and we got access to the first two episodes. Yes.. I have seen the first two episodes and no I won’t spoil them for you. Ok… let me spoil something:

SPOILERS!!

Walkers will perish…

Hehehe thats all I can say.

Here is the episode description

EPISODE 301: “SEED”

Written by: Glen Mazzara
Directed by: Ernest Dickerson

With the world growing increasingly more dangerous and Lori’s pregnancy advancing, Rick discovers a potentially safe haven. But first he must secure the premises, pushing his group to its limit.

————————-

Once again, without sharing too much, I can say that fans who have read the books as well as the ones who have not, will find this episode to be one of the best ones so far. The writers have stepped up their game, and there is tons of action, suspense, drama but mostly action!

You will notice that most of the characters have evolved and some relationships are, for lack of a better word, a little tainted. The opening scene is done in a phenomenal way. It is beautifully written and will certainly get you pumped for the rest of the episode. I have seen the episode a few times and honestly, I don’t get tired of watching it, It’s a perfect episode, perfect TV. It is all you have been waiting for, it is.

For those complaining about Carl…..watch the episode.

Michonne fans… won’t be dissapointed.

Daryl fans…..do I really need to tell you to watch the episode?

Also as you watch the episode, keep in mind that Rick honestly thinks this is a perfect safe haven for his crew, and if you think about it, IT IS! I mean they are protected with a fence, they have cells, lots of room…what can possibly go wrong? What can possibly go wrong?

Well, YOU MUST WATCH AMC at 9/8 C this Sunday to find out.

AMC’s The Walking Dead Season 3 starts Sunday October 14th and everyone is excited to see the return of their favorite characters.

A few months back CBT was invited to visit the set of The Walking Dead ( be jealous) We got to see a scene being filmed, visit the prison set, another super secret set, interview some cast members and also visit Woodbury.

I can’t wait to tell you about the set visit, but first lets dig in to an interview with everyone’s favorite katana wielding chick Michonne, played by Danai Guarira.

Danai is such a down to earth person, she is very nice and courteous, but when she is in character she literally transforms into Michonne. She gets this mean looking tough attitude, and wow…once you see her on screen you will understand what I am talking about.

Here is a bio of the character:

Michonne (Danai Gurira)

Michonne is the mysterious stranger who saved Andrea from walkers with her katana blade. True to the iconic character from Robert Kirkman’s graphic novel, she is a quiet, but fierce warrior. She and Andrea begin on the road together, but their bond will be tested when they are taken into Woodbury by the Governor.

Now lets move on to the interview:

*Can you tell us about the audition process? Did you know much about Michonne before auditioning for the role?

Danai : Even as I was preparing to audition for the role, I didn’t know a lot about the character. I went with what I knew of the world from watching the first season. I really approached it as creating and building a character. A lot of it was really clear on the page when I auditioned, so I kind of built it from that. As you know about the show, they don’t do exactly what’s on the comic book page. There is something about her arc that’s true to the comic book, but still new.

Would you say your experience in The Walking Dead has been overwhelming?

Danai: It’s been intense. Its been intense, um…which is good. Im an intense chick and I like intense, I like challenges, I like intense challenges (smiles) even when I don’t I do. Otherwise you dont feel like you are utilizing everything that you can possibly can.

Do you keep up with the comics?

Danai: Kind of…not really. Glen (Mazzara) was like: “You can read them or not”.I wanted to read them, I am a researcher, so I wanted to see where she was birth from, I wanted to know the stories on the page. (Excitedly) I started to get confused, cause I was watching season 2 at the same time and I was like” did that happened in the book or in the show?”. I couldnt remember so is kind of amazing how they are melding cause they are both so vividly told, the comic book is very vivid and amazing, like how some moments are illustrated. It really sticks with you.

I haven’t read comic books since i was a kid, so I was really interesting to delve into one with such dire stakes…. (pauses) What was your question again? (Everyone laughs)

If you keep up with the comics:

Danai: Yeah I do…I stopped… well they gave me up to book 7, so Im probably around 20 behind at this point. But I get told when something major happens. I was told im still alive ( laughs).

——————–

Thats it for now, stay tuned as we have more interviews, including Showrunner Glenn Mazzara, Steven Yeung, Chandler Riggs and more!

DANAI GURIRA BIO:

Actress and playwright Danai Gurira will star as one of the most anticipated and popular characters in season three of AMC’s “The Walking Dead.” In the season two finale, Gurira’s heroine Michonne bursts onto the scene as the mysterious zombie slave-keeping sword slayer.

Prior to joining “The Walking Dead,” she finished production on the independent drama Ma’ George, the story of an African woman’s struggle after arriving in the U.S. to honor her heritage while attempting to define her new marriage in modern terms. Gurira also starred in the multiple-award winning film The Visitor, in which she played a Senegalese immigrant in New York trying to survive while her illegal immigrant boyfriend is detained by the U.S. government. Other film credits include Three Backyards and Restless City.

Her television credits include roles on “Law and Order: Criminal Intent,” “Lie to Me” and “Nurse Jackie,” as well as a recurring role on the HBO David Simon series “Treme.”

An award-winning playwright, her most recent play The Convert (Stavis Award) is an historical drama set in Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe). Part of a trilogy Gurira is writing about her native country’s coming of age, it is currently earning rave reviews in its run at the Kirk Douglas Theatre in Los Angeles.

Gurira was born in the U.S. and raised in Zimbabwe. She earned an MFA in theatre from NYU after moving back to the U.S. Her initial success was as the co-lead of In the Continuum (a play she co-created and co-wrote while in the acting program at NYU.) The upbeat powerful story focused on two women: one, an upper class, educated newscaster in Africa; the other, an impoverished teenager in south central L.A., who discover that they are HIV positive, and learn to cope in the face of hatred, discrimination and ignorance. Gurira performed the play off-Broadway, in numerous theaters around the U.S. and in Africa and received numerous accolades including an Obie, the Outer Circle Critics John Gassner Award, the Global Tolerance Award (Friends of the United Nations) and the Theater Hall of Fame Honors. Gurira also received the Helen Hayes Award (Woolly Mammoth.)

She subsequently received a grant for research in Liberia and Sierra Leone which resulted in her second play Eclipsed—the story of women abductees trying to survive during that region’s devastating civil war. Gurira won Best Playwright at the NAACP Theater Awards and Best New Play at Helen Hayes Awards. And, on Broadway, Gurira starred Bartlett Sher’s award winning revival of

Joe Turner’s Come and Gone. She also earned the Actor’s Equity Callaway Award for her performance as Isabella in the 2011 Shakespeare in the Park production of Measure for Measure.

Gurira is also a Hodder Fellow at Princeton and a commissioned playwright with Yale Rep. She is co-founder of Almasi, a theater development and production company in Zimbabwe. She divides her time between New York and Los Angeles.

Those lucky enough to attend should expect big things. We’ve heard some details of comic book movies, but those announcements will be made official with more details. Today, a new poster for The Walking Dead season 3, which will have a large presence, has hit.

Hall H is usually reserved for movies, but this year TV shows like Game of Thrones and The Big Bang Theory will be invading the hall. The Walking Dead poster offers up information on all of the scheduled events as well as giving us new looks at Michonne, the Governor, and Rick. The Governor is offering Rick a hand. Is that a tip?

A new trailer is expected to play for season 3 at Comic-Con, and it will surely hit the web shortly thereafter.

Going to San Diego Comic Con? Are you a Walking Dead fan? Well, you don’t want to miss the following figure:

That’s right, the one and only Michonne! She is already a popular character in the comics, but with the beginning of AMC’s The Walking Dead season 3, expect her popularity to get higher. This seems to be a repack figure, with an new design packaging and the poncho, which was not included in the original figure.

As of now we have no more details on the figure, although something tells me it might be sold only at the Skybound booth hehe.

Thoughts?

We’ve gotten some looks at new characters and even heard a little about how the season’s story arc. Executive Producer Gale Anne Hurd spoke with AMC about the new season, the longest one to date, and teases what they will be bringing to Comic-Con.

Season 3 is going to be a massive 16 episode run. With the longest season to date, there comes some challenges:

It’s really a marathon this year. The advantage is we have had some cooler weather in May and we’ll be going into cooler weather again in October. The challenge is maintaining the same intense level of storytelling that our audience expects of us, and we certainly plan to deliver on that.

Some fans got a little bogged down withs season 2 being completely on the farm. That’s going to change with the new season. We know we have the prison and The Governor’s camp coming up this season. Gale Anne Hurd touches on what she’s looking forward to:

I will say that I loved the farm, but it is good to be off the farm. And the contrast between our [two main sets] this season is so great…We’re setting up this first community that is functioning in a post-zombie apocalypse. We get to see not only the advantages of putting civilization back on its feet again but also the dark forces at work in what may seem like a Utopia.

She also talks about how you have to focus on crafting a rich character-driven story, because you only get scares and jeopardy from situations if you identify with the characters. Besides the human threat, the zombies will “up their game” this season as well. There will also be some animatronics used, a first for the show.

Obviously we have the absolute best makeup effects team on the planet, led by Greg Nicotero… And every year he ups his game. So we’re not just seeing the same old thing. This season, we’re going to have puppeted animatronic zombies and that’s something that we haven’t seen before.

And she really teased what Comic-Con attendees will get to see this time at the panel:

We like to bring a special reel for the fans at Comic-Con so they can see a special sneak peak of Season 3 before everyone else. It’s sort of a reward for waiting in line to getting it into the hall. And we’ll be bringing a larger contingent of our cast and crew than ever this year. And also because we began shooting a lot earlier this year, the reel will contain a lot more footage than it has in the past.

If you’re going to Comic-Con you’re in for a treat. Since they have been filming for a while, the sneak peak will probably have a look at The Governor, Michonne, and all sorts of goodies. The third season starts late this fall. Thanks to Stubbz for the heads up.

The Walking Dead season 3 is upon us. It debuts in the fall, and we’ve already gotten our first looks at Michonne and The Governor. The director of season 3 episode 1 talked with AMC about the premiere and Michonne’s introduction. Ernest Dickerson has directed 6 episodes of the show, so he’s definitely up for the challenge of introducing the character.

In the season opener it sounds like we will be getting all kinds of Michonne action. She was teased at the end of season 2 and the opening to this season will finally give fans what they have been craving.

In this episode, we’re introducing Michonne in all of her glory. We get to meet her, and I know a lot of people have been looking forward to that.

We saw the prison teased at the end of the season, but it sounds like we are diving straight in to it with episode 1. Most of the show is shot outdoors, so word about inside shooting is a good clue that we may be in the prison by the end of the new episode. AMC asked what it is like to shoot inside on a sound stage after being on long stretches of highways and in the forest.

It was slightly more pleasant because we could have air conditioning pumped in there, but it was a really dusty environment and real gritty. I had dust in my hair and I blew my nose and black soot came out. [Laughs] I thought it’d be easy, but no, not at all. There’s no such thing as easy in the world of The Walking Dead.

There is also promises of a “particularly gross zombie gag.” This season will see more human threats with the introduction of The Governor, but there will also be plenty of zombies. The season is filming now and is set to return later in the fall.

The highly anticipated third season of AMC and Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead has started shooting, and we have a new behind the scenes video and our first official image of Danai Gurira as Michonne. With a heck of an introduction in the season finale, viewers wait with baited breath for the Katana-weilding fan favorite. Entertainment Weekly has the exclusive first image.

Robert Kirkman, creator of The Walking Dead and the show’s executive producer, talked aobut how she will translate from print to screen:

The essence of the character — her personality, her motives, everything that makes Michonne Michonne — remains intact from the comics, but like a lot of things on the show, there will be little tweaks and differences here and there. We saw that her introduction is slightly different from how it was in the comic, and her interaction with Andrea is really going to be a really cool addition to the character that I think will get television viewers up to speed, and they’ll get to know her a lot faster than comic book readers did.

Kirkman also had some nice things to say about Danai Gurira who is probably known for the HBO Treme and how they decided she was Michonne. Kirkman also had this to say about The Prison, which we saw teased in the finale. They are shooting the hell out of this prison. It just looks absolutely stunning, and I think when people start seeing trailers and stuff for this season, I think people are just gonna be like, “Wait, what? This is what? I can’t believe this is a TV show!” It’s really creepy, really moody and it’s just gonna be really awesome. You can read the full rundown by clicking here. For now, feast your eyes on our Michonne and enjoy the behind the scenes teaser for season 3.

Danai Gurira was announced on live TV last Sunday on The Talking Dead as being our new Michonne. We’ll get our first look at Gurira in action in Season 3. She wasn’t in the season finale when we first laid eyes on the mysterious sword wielding Bad-A with two zombies in tow, they had not cast her yet so a stand-in was used. She was finally allowed to talk about her secret casting after Robert Kirkman announced it to the masses, and The Hollywood Reporter got a few words with the actress. You can read the full interview by following the previous link, but here is a rundown for what Ms. Gurira said.

When asked what it was like to land the role and keep it a secret during the week before the finale

I’d never really watched it before I got the audition and I got to really get acquainted with it during these last few weeks and fell completely in love with it. I’m absolutely hooked. I felt desire really deeply to be a part of it. When I got to work with the producers one day and came back for the test I fell more in love with the show and wanted it more. It’s been a pretty intense week.

She also touched on how Michonne will translate on screen compared to the comics.

I understand the way she is drawn in the graphic novels — she’s so amazing. I’m excited to embody that and be a badass. I’ve always yearned to do that. I’m really thrilled she already has so much support.I’m being sent them (the comics) now. I was reading snippets I could get online. I’ve been doing a lot of research prior to getting the part in preparation to get to know the world and the force of this amazing story. I watched Season 1 and I was blown away and was trying to get to know more. I’ll be doing that this week.

I’m going to develop that with [showrunner] Glen Mazzara and the whole creative team. They have their own take on the source material. I’m going to be meeting with them next week to get an understanding of what their take is and how she grows and develops. I’ll find out the answer to that in the coming weeks in terms of exactly how she will map out with what she is in the books vs. what she will be on the screen. I’ll be learning as I go in some regards. I do know that she remains an absolute badass and I will be training with katana swords. I’m really excited about that.

Of course, the inevitable question arose about if she was a comic book fan before she got one of the most iconic roles in The Walking Dead World

Back in the day I used to read Archie but I haven’t been a comic book aficionado. I love a great story though, whatever realm that’s in.

Wrapping things up, she talks about feeling some pressure with such a big role

I definitely feel pressure but I’m ready to take the character on. I’m excited that she has an amazing following and team of creators and writers. I’m up for the challenge.

Of course that wasn’t her in the finale, but what an entrance! Danai Gurira looks very similar to how Michonne is drawn in the comics and she goes on to say in the interview that she had had some sword training for her theater work, but was going full force into katana training so I think the fans will be happy with what she’s bringing to the table. I for one am psyched with the character’s introduction and cant’ wait for all the awesomeness we’ve heard teased about what’s coming in Season 3! What do you think?
