LEGO Batman: The Movie – DC Superheroes Unite provides the ultimate blend of action and humor guaranteed to entertain fanboys of all ages.

LEGO Batman: The Movie – DC Superheroes Unite features the definitive voice of Lex Luthor, Clancy Brown (The Shawshank Redemption, SpongeBob SquarePants). In addition to Baker and Willingham, the cast includes Christopher Smith (Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe) as the Joker, and Charlie Schlatter (Diagnosis Murder) in a hilarious turn as the voice of Robin.

The all-ages direct-to-video film is directed by Jon Burton from a screenplay by David A. Goodman. The DVD/Blu-ray combo pack will feature over two hours of content along with the film:

We also have some details on characters who are very likely to show up in the game. The list includes: The Thing, Juggernaut, Sandman, Green Goblin in a OsCorp Tower level, and Magneto.

Traveller’s Tale took on the DC universe in Lego Batman 2: Dc Super Heroes, a result of the studio being purchased by Warner Bros. in 2007. Because WB owns DC and the gaming company, many thought a Lego Marvel videogame was all but impossible. The fact TT is working on a new Lego game featuring over 100 Marvel characters came as quite the surprise to fans and the game’s developers alike.  In a recent write-up in the newest issue of Game Informer, thanks to our friend Llama for some scans, the company talked on the new project and teased new details for the upcoming game.

Jonathan Smith, TT Games head of production, touched on the seemingly impossible task of WB making a Marvel game:

The experience we’ve had with massive media organizations is that they’re not entirely stocked by bad people. This may come as a shock to people on the internet, but it turns out that big media organizations are capable of making really good decisions with players’ best interests at heart.

The article reveals that the game will feature The Avengers as an important part of the game, but it will work in other characters, factions, and groups inside the Marvel universe. The game’s story will be written by Mark Hoffmeier. The writer is no stranger to big franchises having written some for Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Spider-Man: The Animated Series, and Marvel Super Hero Squad.  The story is still under wraps but it appears Loki will reach out to an unnamed villain to create a “bad-guy alliance to defeat the heroes who stand in their way.”

Two of the game’s most unique characters will be Spider-Man and Hulk. The city of New York will be destroyed in part and rebuilt by players, but gamers can cause destruction of their own with Hulk. The game developers had to work a lot of things around the green behemoth who will be a major focus of the game. Objects have to be destroyable and react to Hulk’s hyperstrength. While the Lego game will have the skillset characters of the previous game, Spider-Man seems to be in a class of his own. Instead of having isolated areas for web use like Batman’s grappling hook, the web slinger can use his webs to stick to any surface and swing wherever players want. Spider-Man’s webs can also be used to tie up bad guys and grab/pull objects. The trademark Spider sense is also in the game. According to one developer “Spider-Man is quite possibly the most difficult of the characters we’ve worked on, but he’s becoming the most satisfying from a design perspective.”

You can learn even more about the upcoming Marvel Lego game by picking up the newest issue of Game Informer. It sounds like this will be going well beyond the usually superhero Lego game fare. The game is said to feature over 100 characters. The list, as of now, includes: Spider-Man, Iron Man, Wolverine, Captain America, Hulk, Thor, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Deadpool, Loki, Galactus, The Fantastic Four, X-Men, Guardians of the Galaxy, and several of the Avengers. Marvel super heroes are assembling for an action-packed, brick-smashing good time! Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, TT Games, The LEGO Group and Marvel Entertainment announced today that “LEGO Marvel Super Heroes” will be available beginning Fall 2013 for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system, the Wii U system and Windows PC, as well as the Nintendo DS handheld system, Nintendo 3DS handheld system and PlayStation Vita handheld entertainment system. “LEGO Marvel Super Heroes” is the first instalment in the highly successful LEGO videogame franchise to feature famous Marvel characters.

“LEGO Marvel Super Heroes” complements the LEGO Marvel Super Heroes construction toy collection, which brings the characters, vehicles and action of Marvel’s renowned universe to the world of LEGO build-and-play adventure. There are currently eight iconic scenes from the X-Men, Iron Man and Spider-Man franchises available and more construction sets tied to the new “Iron Man 3” feature film will launch later this spring.

“LEGO Marvel Super Heroes” offers an original storyline in which Nick Fury calls upon Iron Man, the Hulk, Thor, Spider-Man, Wolverine and other heroes spanning the Marvel Universe to save Earth from such threats as the vengeance of Loki and the hunger of Galactus, Devourer of the Worlds.  LEGO and Marvel fans will enjoy classic LEGO videogame adventure and humor, while playing as their favorite Marvel characters.

Cody "The Thorverine" Ferrell, LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Videogame Announced

The film is tentatively being called Lego: The Piece of Resistance and will have Will Arnett voicing Batman. Offers have been made for Channing Tatum to voice Superman, but he may not be able to fit it into his schedule. Park and Recreations Chris Pratt will voice the lead character Emmet, who is described as

an ordinary, law-abiding, rules-following, perfectly average Lego mini-figure who is mistakenly identified as the most extraordinary MasterBuilder. He is drafted into a fellowship of strangers on an epic quest to stop an evil tyrant from gluing the universe together, a journey for which Emmet is hopelessly and hilariously underprepared.

Phil Lord and Christopher Miller from Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs will team up with Chris McKay from Robot Chicken to direct the film. There is also word that the film will have its own characters, but several characters from already well-established Lego adaptations will pop up. Supposedly, licensing deals are trying to be made so Yoda and Indiana Jones can appear in Lego movies. The film is scheduled for February 2014.

While it is slightly disappointing that it is only a Lego movie after folks on Twitter were teasing a Batman and Superman movie, the games have been pretty good and could make for an interesting flick.

It’s being reported that Warner Brothers will put out a LEGO Lord of the Rings game, as many expected. Packaging for LEGO’s new line of LOTR toys based, based off the Peter Jackson trilogy, has revealed that the game is well on its way. The game was confirmed based on a brochure for the new toys. This was a major slip-up that European online store ShopTo backed up with a pre-order post that was quickly yanked down. The release date listed was october 26, although that could be the European release since that is where the site is based out of.

This makes since, the first part of The Hobbit comes out towards the end of this year and a game for the original three films makes perfect sense. While we prepare for Bilbo to go on a journey, we’ll be able to play with Frodo and the gang as they journey to destroy the one ring.

The story of The Hobbit (split in two films) narrates the adventures of Bilbo at the time he meets the wizard Gandalf the Grey. Accompanied by the dwarf Thorin Oakenshield and twelve companions, the magician asks Bilbo aid to invade the lair of a dangerous dragon, Smaug, and retrieve a valuable treasure of the family of Thorin. During this adventure, Bilbo will find the ring, whose power is still unknown to him.
