Last week, star of the moment Joseph Gordon-Levitt joined the cast as Johnny, along with Chris Meloni. Josh Brolin, who is another hot commodity in Hollywood, signed on to replace Clive Owen in the role of Dwight.

Three more actors are set to join the already star studded cast in Ray Liotta, Jeremy Piven and Juno Temple. According to the Playlist, details on the characters are being kept under wraps. This trio will be joining Bruce Willis, Mickey Rourke, Jessica Alba, Rosario Dawson, Jamie King, Dennis Haysbert and the previously mentioned Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Josh Brolin and Chris Meloni.

Ray Liotta is enjoying a bit of a resurgence in recent months, having starred alongside Brad Pitt in Killing The Softly and several new films landing in theaters this year. Temple was most recently seen in The Dark Knight Rises as Selina Kyle’s accomplice and will also be featured in numerous films this year.

Sin City: A Dame to Kill For will arrive in theaters October 4th, 2013

I’m the lucky one. Before Princeless was a glimmer in the eye of the Eisner nomination’s, I received an email from Jeremy care of my personal blog Fiction State of Mind. In the e-mail Jeremy pitched to me the premise of Princeless 1 and asked me if I would be willing to review it. I accepted a digital copy and upon reading it for the third time added the book to my pull list.

I was the only one at my local comic shop who read it. In fact my store only ordered copies for me. Every month as the PDF review files kept coming in I kept talking up this wonderful book. A book that is family and more importantly, female friendly. A book with a strong, beautiful, racially diverse character who asks the hard questions and takes the courageous actions.

Now thanks to Action Labs dedicated marketing, four top notch issues, and positive reviews, Princeless is a commercial success! I’m so thankful to Jeremy for the opportunity to review each issue of Princeless. I’m also thankful that the Eisner committee noticed this fine book. I checked in with Jeremy to offer my congratulations and to find out his plans leading up to San Diego Comic -Con :

1) Congrats on the dual nominations for Princeless! How did you find out the good news?

Well, the great thing is that they let us know a little before they announce it officially so that they can make sure they have their facts straight and names spelled correctly, so I found out from my editor on Monday by a pretty innocuous looking email titled “good news”. I was sure it was just that someone had given us a favorable review or something. Eisners didn’t even cross my mind till I was reading it.

2) I discovered at Wondercon that issue 3 of Princeless was hard to find, was it a sellout issue for you guys?

3 and 4 have been kind of hard to come by, just because of the way the direct market works. We didn’t have a ton of preorders for issue 1 initially, so we had even fewer for the later issues. We eventually got a lot of reorders for one, so by the time 3 came out there were a ton more ones out there. Now that 3 is nominated for the Eisner I’m sure it will be even harder to find. At this point, they’re all sellouts for us as the series has caught fire over time.

3) I know that the Princeless trade is available on the nook as well ad Graphicly and the physical tpb, Are their any plans to reprint the original 4 issues?

Right now we’re doing limited reorders directly through us and filling the last few orders from Diamond, but once the trade is available in physical form the individual issues will probably only be available through conventions. We do plan on doing a larger special edition trade down the line sometime as well.

4) What is the time frame for the Princeless sequel? Is it going to be released in 2012?

The second volume of the story is currently set to begin in late 2012 and probably roll into the next year, much like this series did. However, for those hungry for more Princeless, we will also have a collection of short stories being released in late summer with work from a number of up and coming female artists.

5) Tell me your plans for SDCC and the Eisner Awards, Will Action Lab have a booth? Any plans for signings or promotional events at the con ?

Prior to the Eisner announcements, we were still on the waiting list for a table. Hopefully this will give us a bit more consideration. I do plan on being there for the awards and selling and signing at the table should we get one.

Princeless is available in a variety of formats: An app on the nook color, App’s through Graphicly, the collected edition you can request at your local comic shop and at conventions while supplies last! Also be sure to check out Action Lab’s web site: http://www.actionlabcomics.com for their free digital sampler being released May 5th, Free Comic Book Day.

Like everything in life it’s very easy to complain about what’s wrong in the comics industry. Princeless however has been a source of pleasure these last few months.

I’ve been happy to support this book financially by purchasing every issue , as well as reviewing the books on my personal blog and for CBT. With issue four of Princeless relasing today and the upcoming trade release in April . I’m happy to share with you a recent interview with Jeremy about the origins of Princeless and it’s future.

1)Tell me how you came up with the story idea for Princeless

I wanted my daughter to be able to read and love comic the way I have in my life. I’d love to share that with her. Unfortunately, i just don’t feel there are enough kid friendly strong female characters out there. Either they’re helpless princesses or sparsely clothed supermodels. I wanted her to have a character she could really look up to as a role model and as a woman of color.
2)With Princeless Action Lab makes it look effortless to create diverse, female friendly comics. Was that foremost in you thoughts? Or coincidental?

This was the main thing I wanted to do with Princeless. To be honest, Adrienne predates Action Lab, but it’s because of them that she’s gotten this chance to live and breath. I’m eternally grateful for that. The diversity issue in particular was one I wanted to deal with, largely because everyone else seems compelled not to. While my wife has always been a bit into comics, her sisters weren’t. And why should they be? There are few to no black women represented in comics depending on the month you look. It’s as if the comic industry has decided that they have nothing to say to black women. Black women are nerds too! Why shouldn’t they be able to open a comic book and see a black woman fighting evil?

3) I know Action Lab is active in social media and blogger outreach, have you been able to get Princeless into schools or libraries?

I’m so glad you asked that Kai. That’s actually my next area of concentration. The trade will be out in April and is far more ideal that a floppy book for a library setting. Honestly, though I’ve been doing some cramming I’m still pretty clueless on this and would love any help, advice, or leads that anyone can offer. Hopefully Princeless is just the sort of book that libraries will want to have in their collection and I’d love nothing more than to visit some libraries with it.

4) Issue 4 of Princeless gives the impression that more adventures are possible, can you confirm a sequel is coming?

Oh yes. In fact, there will be several. Each mini will be its own self contained chapter in the story, each focusing on a separate rescue. There are a lot more great characters for everyone to meet and a lot more action packed adventures for Adrienne, Bedelia, and Sparky in the days to come. Plus, issue 2 will give us an introduction to some of the bad guys who will have the job of tracking down our rouge princess.

5) Whats next for you creatively?
Well, in addition to doing a lot of signing and selling at cons this summer, I am working on several projects with my self publishing press, Firetower Studios. I write daily webcomics following several stories with several artists on our website. There’s something for everyone, from werewolf lawyers to my wife and my journal comic about parenting and being in an interracial relationship. Also, I’m continuing work on my other print comic “The Order of Dagonet” with artist Jason Strutz. All of our issues are currently available from our website or digitally on Graphicly. Psst…the first issue is free and features some amazing art by Mr. Strutz.

Be sure to follow Jeremy on Twitter :
