Local comic book store’s superheroic customers join forces to help sick kids in need

Getting sick is a bummer at any age–but it’s especially harsh when you’re a kid!

Every January Heroes and Villains collects NEW, all-ages graphic novels from its generous customers–people just like you–and donates them to The Diamond Medical Children’s Center Library.

2013 is the third year of this initiative. To date, they’ve raised over $4,000 worth reading material.

Says store owner, Mike Camp: “When you’re a kid, being sick makes you feel small and helpless. It’s awful. Luckily, comics have the exact opposite effect–they build us up, they give us hope, and they remind us that we’re capable of anything we can imagine. Heroes and Villains is proud to help Tucson’s heroic comic book community get books in the hands of those who can benefit from their message the most.”

This year they’re making it easier to participate than ever before:

- Drop in the store anytime throughout the month of January, pick up a new, all-ages graphic novel and let your cashier know that you’d like to donate it to the book drive.

- Call Heroes and Villains at 520-321-HERO and donate via debit or credit card. Or make a cash donation. Donations will be collected all throughout the month, and used to purchase books for the drive.

- Trade in your old comics, graphic novels and collectibles for store credit, and donate that store credit to the book drive (which, just like cash donations, will be used to purchase items for the books drive)

PLUS: everyone who donates will be entered into a raffle to win a one-year-subscription to the monthly comic book of their choice!

If you’d like more information about Heroes and Villains and their Annual Charity Comic Book Drive for the Diamond Children’s Medical Center, please call Eric M. Esquivel at (520)-321-HERO, or email Eric at EricEsqu.comics@gmail.com.

Find Heroes and Villains online: Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram, Pheed, Flickr

The comic book and games store voted “Best of Tucson” in 2009, 2010 and 2011 by the readers of The Tucson Weekly joins forces with The Diamond Children’s Medical Center to inspire the next generation of superheroes.

Heroes and Villains tries to live up to the first part of their name this February as they collect donations of new comic books and graphic novels for the Diamond Children’s Medical Center’s library.

Says store owner, Mike Camp: “Heroes and Villains believes in comics’ power to inspire, to make kids (of all ages) feel like maybe there’s a Superman coiled just beneath those horned rim glasses, or a Wonder Woman waiting beneath that tangle of braces and barrettes.

It’s our hope that these comic books (generously donated by our superheroic customers) give kids an extra boost of encouragement during a difficult time in their young lives”

If you’d like more information about Heroes and Villains and their Annual Charity Comic Book Drive for the Diamond Children’s Medical Center, please call Eric M.
