Work on Marc Webb’s Spider-Man sequel is coming along nicely. It seems the majority of the cast is in place and filming will start soon. Two of the new additions to the movie were out and about promoting their movies at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. Shailene Woodley, who will be playing Mary Jane Watson, and Dane DeHaan, Harry Osborn, talked a little about the upcoming Spidey movie.

Woodley spoke with MTV about joining the cast and how excited she was about the film. The actress couldn’t reveal too much, but she said she’s a fan of the character and really enjoyed the reboot:

Spider-Man has always been my favorite super hero dude, since I was a little girl. I think there’s something really special about flying. When I watched the previous Spider-Man with Andrew Garfield, he made me feel invincible. I think Marc Webb is amazing. I’m so stoked to work with Andrew and Emma [Stone], they’re the best of the best.

She went on to say that she didn’t know any real details about the film, but she assumes she’ll be part of a love triangle if the comics are anything to go by. Woodley also hinted that she’d be making the transition and become a redhead soon. You can watch the full video interview by clicking here.

Chronicle break-out star Dane DeHaan also chatted about The Amazing Spider-Man sequel while on the red carpet for his film with Daniel “Harry Potter” Radcliffe called Kill Your Darlings. The actor remained tight lipped on what he knows, but he did confirm that he will be involved in a love triangle. Is it with Gwen Stacy, Mary Jane, Aunt May? We’ll have to wait and find out. The director of Darlings may have spoiled a big plot point for the film though. HitFix reports an incident that occured during the cast introductions:

[Director] Krokidas introduced the cast of “Darlings” which includes Daniel Radcliffe, Ben Foster and Michael C. Hall. When he got to DeHaan he said “He’s the Green Goblin.” DeHaan just smiled, but it didn’t seem like Krokidas was kidding.

Is this a case of a director who doesn’t know a lot about comics or is Webb planning on skipping Norman and having Harry don the Green Goblin gear? I would say it’s the first, but it wouldn’t be a huge surprise if the second happened. The Green Goblin was used in Sam Raimi’s first film, so it would be a little too soon to simply rehash the character. What do you think? Would you be pleased if Harry is the first Green Goblin?

The ten issue story will affect the entire Marvel Universe and have a major impact on characters moving forward. Several variant covers have been released showing off Ultron upgrading and evolving throughout the storyline. If you’re looking for a rainy day activity, you could make a flip book out of the covers to see Ultron upgrade his armor and weapon systems. What do you think about the changes?

Yumi Sakugawa – It is my pleasure! I’m finally fully recovered from a week-long cold so right now I am feeling pretty amazing.

CBT – You’re a self published comic book artist. How did you start?

Yumi – After I graduated from UCLA, I spent a year teaching English in Japan… because that’s what you do when you have just graduated from college with an art major and you have no idea what you’re going to do with yourself. During that time, a fellow English-teaching American artist friend and I spontaneously decided to sign up for a small booth at the bi-annual Tokyo Design Festa, a giant arts and craft convention that happens in Tokyo every May and November. I didn’t have any art on hand and I definitely did not want to show up as a first-time exhibitor empty-handed–so I furiously whipped up my first self-published 30-page comic zine “Milk and Moo” just in time for the event. Note to new artists, there is nothing like a convention deadline to really force yourself to kick your own butt to get something done.

This was back in 2008, and I had no idea that a zine culture even existed. When I moved back to Los Angeles, I made serendipitous connections with fellow artists in 2010 who introduced me to the zine scene and really got me hooked to showing comic zines at zine conventions.

CBT – What projects have you completed? Currently working on?

Yumi – I’ve self-published about eight comic zines in the last four years, ranging from illustrated guides on meditation to short comic story collections. My most recent self-published comic zine was a 50-page autobiographical diary comic of my travels in Paris and Rome.

Things I’m currently working on? I’ll definitely be releasing more self-published comics about meditation and mindfulness (people seem to really like those), and more short comic story collections. And since the world always needs more self-love and creative inspiration, I’m thinking of releasing a comic zine that deals specifically with self-love and staying inspired as an artist.

I’m also working on a longer fictional comic project right now, longer than anything I have ever made. It’s kind of a secret so either a lot of people will get to read it once it’s done or I won’t finish it and no one will ever know about it. Hopefully it will be the former and not the latter.

CBT – How long have you been in the art world? What inspired you to pick up the pencil/pen and create?

Yumi – I honestly don’t know what counts as being in the art world! I was in my first group art show in 2008 that wasn’t an art school student campus gallery show, so maybe since then? As for what inspired me to pick up the pencil / pen and create, I’ve always been drawing and doodling since I was a small kid, and drawing is the perfect medium to express yourself when you’re a really painfully shy kid and you’re trrified of talking to people.

CBT – As an artist, conventions and other means of showcasing are pretty important to promote your work. Have you attended conventions?

Yumi – Yes! I’ve attended maybe 6 different comic and zine conventions in the last few years and I really love the convention scene. For 2013, I’m really excited that I will be tabling away from the West Coast for the first time ever–at the Brooklyn Zine Fest in April and at the Toronto Comics and Arts Festival in May. Come visit my table if you think you’ll be going to either of those events!

I always make the coolest new friends and discover amazing new artists at every convention event. Seriously, I feel like there is a significantly lower percentage of douchey, pretentious creative types in the zine scene compared to other creative scenes or maybe I have just been really lucky with the people I’ve met. That, and I love having the opportunity to share my work with new people and connect in real-time with people who have seen my work previously on the internet or elsewhere.

If you are just starting out as a comic book artist, then I really recommend signing up for a table or a booth at a comic convention. Even if you don’t sell that many comics in the beginning, you get so much from the whole experience.

CBT – What is your best Convention memory?

Yumi – I think my best convention memory is the first comic and zine convention I’ve ever attended in 2010. I was crammed in one car with three other zine friends and left at 3 in the morning from Los Angeles to arrive just in time in Sacramento at around 10 A.M. to table at Indy Euphoria. I was only there for one day and I hitched a ride back to Los Angeles with another friend that same night. That convention memory is particularly special to me because that was the first time I had the chance to meet Dylan Williams, the late founder of Sparkplug Comic Books. It was at the convention when he actually bought copies of my first comic zine from me to distribute through Sparkplug and as a total newbie, I was so blown away by the possibility that complete strangers would really take a genuine interest in reading my comics. I feel so fortunate to have met him at that time and one more time before his unfortunate passing in 2011.

CBT – Things can be a bit difficult getting into the comic business. What encourages you to continue?

Yumi – I honestly don’t think much about the difficulty of getting into the comic business. Not because I naively think it won’t be difficult for me or anything like that, more so because I’m much more preoccupied on a narcissistic, mundane level with the daily difficulty of motivating myself every single day to find the time and the inspiration to move forward with my comic projects, regardless of busyness or creative blocks.

What keeps me going? Fan mail from an eleven-year-old girl. Complete strangers from countries I’ve never visited ordering my zines online. Seeing my self-published comics on display in my favorite independent bookstores. Kind messages from strangers. The painstakingly slow progress I make as an artist with every new project I finish. Being held accountable to my inner eleven-year-old who always dreamed of becoming a cartoonist.

CBT – Have you done work for other publishers?

Yumi – I’m actually working on something with another comic publisher. I can’t disclose too much information for the moment and more details will be revealed later in 2013. Stay tuned!

CBT – What do you enjoy most about doing comics?

Yumi – I think comics is the best creative medium for me to fully and honestly express myself as an artist and as a human being. Growing up, I was always torn between wanting to become a writer and wanting to become an artist; thankfully with comics, you can do both things at the same time.

CBT – With the year of rebirths and reboots, do you feel it contributes well to the comic business or takes the interest away from longtime readers?

Yumi – I’m the worst person to ask this question. I haven’t actually read any rebirth or reboot comic storylines.

CBT – Who is your favorite comic book artist? Favorite title or series that features his/her art?

Yumi – What a difficult question! I have many favorite comic book artists that changes with what I am interested in at the moment, but I always find myself revisiting again and again “Skim” illustrated by Jillian Tamaki and written by Mariko Tamaki. Coming-of-age stories with interesting female teenage protagonists are my personal catnip.

CBT – What comic book character would you find easy to relate to?

Yumi – This is a Japanese manga character, but I can relate too well with Maruko from the shoujo manga series “Chibi Maruko-Chan.” She’s lazy and disorganized, and prone to retreating to her own imaginary world a lot, just like me. (I can’t relate, however, to her immense dislike of nattou)

As for an American comic book character, this may be an extreme cliche answer but I think Charlie Brown and I would have had a lot of great coffee hang-outs. I was a pretty melancholy kid prone to over-nostalgizing my own childhood experiences in my head as they were happening in real time.

CBT – What would you consider your greatest piece to date?

Yumi – I don’t know if this would be my greatest, but I will always have a huge fondness for my first self-published comic story “Milk and Moo.” There is a wonderful magic that comes out of having no idea what you’re doing but somehow getting it done anyway.

CBT – For those who want to have a start in illustration, what advice would you share with them?

Yumi – Give the world as many opportunities as possible to see your artwork. Have a regularly updated art blog. Show your work at shows. Exhibit at conventions. Meet other artists. Make friends with artists whose skills and work ethic intimidate the shit out of you. Being an artist can be a lonely business, so find a community of artists you can join or make your own community. Find excuses to get your illustration out there, whether it’s volunteering to illustrate for a someone’s music event flyer or challenging yourself to publishing a weekly web comic with a friend.

In the beginning, all of this may seem like shooting darts in the dark. It is all worth it for the momentum that you create for yourself that will carry you over to your next great opportunity.

CBT – Thank you very much! Is there anything you’d like for us to be on the lookout for?

Yumi – Since so many people have asked about this, I will be releasing a limited artist booklet print of my emo-comic “I Think I Am In Friend-Love with You” sometime this month (January). If you are looking for the perfect not-so-subtle gift to give to your friend-crush for Valentine’s Day, this is it.

Update: We have a few new character pics for the game including Hulk, Wolverine, Spider-Man, Deadpool and an image that teases the inclusion of Sandman. Check those out below.

We also have some details on characters who are very likely to show up in the game. The list includes: The Thing, Juggernaut, Sandman, Green Goblin in a OsCorp Tower level, and Magneto.

Traveller’s Tale took on the DC universe in Lego Batman 2: Dc Super Heroes, a result of the studio being purchased by Warner Bros. in 2007. Because WB owns DC and the gaming company, many thought a Lego Marvel videogame was all but impossible. The fact TT is working on a new Lego game featuring over 100 Marvel characters came as quite the surprise to fans and the game’s developers alike. In a recent write-up in the newest issue of Game Informer, thanks to our friend Llama for some scans, the company talked on the new project and teased new details for the upcoming game.

Jonathan Smith, TT Games head of production, touched on the seemingly impossible task of WB making a Marvel game:

The experience we’ve had with massive media organizations is that they’re not entirely stocked by bad people. This may come as a shock to people on the internet, but it turns out that big media organizations are capable of making really good decisions with players’ best interests at heart.

The article reveals that the game will feature The Avengers as an important part of the game, but it will work in other characters, factions, and groups inside the Marvel universe. The game’s story will be written by Mark Hoffmeier. The writer is no stranger to big franchises having written some for Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Spider-Man: The Animated Series, and Marvel Super Hero Squad. The story is still under wraps but it appears Loki will reach out to an unnamed villain to create a “bad-guy alliance to defeat the heroes who stand in their way.”

Two of the game’s most unique characters will be Spider-Man and Hulk. The city of New York will be destroyed in part and rebuilt by players, but gamers can cause destruction of their own with Hulk. The game developers had to work a lot of things around the green behemoth who will be a major focus of the game. Objects have to be destroyable and react to Hulk’s hyperstrength. While the Lego game will have the skillset characters of the previous game, Spider-Man seems to be in a class of his own. Instead of having isolated areas for web use like Batman’s grappling hook, the web slinger can use his webs to stick to any surface and swing wherever players want. Spider-Man’s webs can also be used to tie up bad guys and grab/pull objects. The trademark Spider sense is also in the game. According to one developer “Spider-Man is quite possibly the most difficult of the characters we’ve worked on, but he’s becoming the most satisfying from a design perspective.”

You can learn even more about the upcoming Marvel Lego game by picking up the newest issue of Game Informer. It sounds like this will be going well beyond the usually superhero Lego game fare. With the level of detail and free playing ability to Hulk and Spider-Man, it will be exciting to see what they bring for the other 100+ characters. What do you think? Will you be picking this game up?

Now that Smallville has come to an end on the youth-oriented CW network, execs have been scrambling to find a replacement for the hero oriented series. Earlier this year, the CW introduced Arrow, a gritty and darker take on the Green Arrow, who played a major role in Smallville, though the two series are not connected. With that series proving to be successful, the network is looking to add one more DC character in Wonder Woman.

The new series, which has yet to be green lit for a pilot is said to be centered on a younger Diana, currently being called Isis, before she becomes the famed hero. CW President Mark Pedowitz recently stated that Amazon would be “an origination story in the sense that Smallville was an origination story.” take that for what it’s worth.

Casting for the series has been underway for a few weeks now, despite not having a pilot ordered. But the fact they are moving forward with casting shows they are fairly confident in the project. Today, STV have learned that Amy Manson is being eyed for the lead role in the series. Manson has had roles in several “geek” shows, including Torchwood, Being Human and Misfits.

I think most would agree that this series is fighting an uphill battle with fans of the character and casting will play a major part in whether this show is successful. Is Manson right for the role? Is she enough to keep this series from collapsing like the most recent failed attempt with Adrienne Palicki? Only time will tell.

It has been quite the weak year for animated features. Brave didn’t please audiences as much as other Pixar films, and the stupid Madagascar films continued to bore adults. But then comes along Wreck-It Ralph, a movie in the vein of Shrek, where the adult and child love the movie.

Ralph is a very simple movie at heart, but has plenty of deeper messages. Kids will see what they want, and so will adults. Kids will see a man who thinks he is bad be a good person. Adults will see a complex film about heroes and their somewhat ambiguous morality. It’s amazing how easily the movie balances these two extremes. Never does the audience feel like these plot twists are forced or shoved in for the sake of it. Everything feels natural for the story. The plot does a great job of giving the audience to care for each and every character. Even a character like King Candy, who turns out to be a villain for the movie. The rules of the world are also stated nicely. The audience doesn’t have to sit through some long exposition scene about how and why they game jump. The rules are brought up naturally, or in a funny way.

Yes, there are video game references a plenty. They go from obscure arcade games like Tappers, to main stream characters like Sonic. The majority of Ralph takes place in a Mario Kart knock off, with plenty of jokes at that series. It should take a couple viewings to get all of the hints and nods to games. While many movies have tried to have their setting be a video game, none have succeeded. But Ralph soars in this setting. It’s clear the creators have a love for video games, and know what they are about. There are plenty of jokes at modern and classic video games, but there is a respect behind those jokes.

The special effects are on the same level of Pixar. 8-bit characters move in quick motions, as they would when playing the game. If something in an 8-bit game splashes, the puddles are squares. It’s a small thing, but goes a long way to help sell the world that these characters are in. Another big thing is having every character react as they would in their game. On a small scale, this is to be expected. But when there is a huge scene, filled with hundreds of characters, every character acts accordingly. Sonic is in the background of one of these scenes, and we see him get hit with debris. Naturally, he starts blinking and shoots out coins. He was so far in the background, I almost missed it.

Wreck-It Ralph isn’t perfect though. While the writing is great in most scenes, occasionally the writing gets a little on the nose with their message. The movie treads the line well of adult and kid content, but the script creeps into preachy territory every so often. It’s jarring, considering there are a few scenes that are quite dark emotionally, and filled with subtlety. Then we go to a scene that lays everything out on the table. It doesn’t ruin the movie by any means, but it could have been changed.

The voice actors create a great team. No one steals the show, but they all work together to create a better movie. John C. Riley makes Ralph lovable, and instantly the audience feels for the guy. Sarah Silverman makes Vanellope annoying as hell, then the audience’s heart just breaks for her. Her voice is one of the few who can’t be picked out right away. Jane Lynch plays the tough as nails commander well, in a tongue-in-cheek fashion. Jack McBryer was hysterical as Fix It Felix. But the biggest surprise was that Alan Tudyk played King Candy. He sounds nothing like Tudyk’s normal voice. And as I have always said, “Putting Alan Tudyk in your movie ALWAYS makes it better.”

If Wreck-It Ralph proves one thing, it’s that kids don’t need a movie that coddles them. Ralph deals with some heavy emotions that are accentuated by some perfectly voiced scenes. It seemed almost un-Disney to have these characters so sad. But it works. Kids loved the movie, and many were screaming that they wanted to see it again.

Wreck-It Ralph gets 4/5.

Welcome to the first episode of the RAW Rundown! I’ll give you guys a unique take on Monday’s shenanigans in the world of WWE and their anti-logic. I’ll run down the matches, important plot points and anything else that begs to be said. I’m going to beg the wrestling Gods to treat me better this week than they did last week, otherwise we are screwed. In any event, let’s get to the action!

—————————————————–

We kick off the show with… wait for it… AJ! Apparently the stipulation of her as the special guest referee for the CM Punk/Daniel Bryan WWE Title match at Money in the Bank is starting to weigh on her a bit. I mean, she’s only had two weeks to grasp this concept and all. Next out is… wait for it… the straight-edge superstar, CM Punk! I’m going to hold on to my belief that this is the best put together storyline that they’ve had in a few. Nevertheless, back to the show: last week Punk basically told AJ she needed to seek psychiatric help, she was unamused. In her warped logic, “when you called me bat-s*** crazy I saw love in your eyes”, because that just makes sense, right?

This is what a storyline looks like holding on for dear life...

We get a little more discussion and heart-warming sentiment before AJ drops down to a crazy knee and crazy proposes to not nearly as crazy Punk (side note: For as well as the WWE has done with this angle and as well as AJ has sold it, Punk has done a bang up job acting and selling all this). Daniel Bryan runs out screaming “no”, and goes on to claim Punk is trying to manipulate her, as she is the ref on Sunday. D-Bry still loves her and had every intention of proposing to her, only he is sans ring. So… creepy love triangle.

The anonymous Raw general manager returns

The trio are interrupted by THE ANONYMOUS RAW GENERAL MANAGER! Guess who’s the special guest GM this week? Yeah, not too amused either. The self-aware laptop makes a main event of CM Punk & AJ Lee vs. Daniel Bryan & Eve. Needless to say Danny is none too pleased by it. The segment closes by AJ admitting “I have a feeling I’m going to walk out of this arena with my future husband”. Unfortunately unless there is a massive swerve somewhere soon, WWE jumped the shark yet again on another storyline.

Match No. One: World Heavyweight Champion Sheamus versus Jack Swagger

Jack Swagger gets the jobber entrance (non-televised) and starts off with a collegiate style belly-to-back takedown followed by throwing the Irish born champ to the turnbuckle. That’s all the offense he gets as Sheamus catches him in a move mid-air and hits White Noise before a Brogue Kick to end it. Makes sense, really, jobber entrance and squash match.

Sheamus’ opponent for the title on Sunday, Alberto Del Rio, shows on the Titantron and proclaims that he’s gonna take him out and take his belt. In a fit of rage Sheamus connects with yet another Brogue Kick to Swagger who is trying to get to his feet. Words cant really describe what transpires next, but I’ll try.

We go backstage to Santino Marella congratulating Zack Ryder on winning a battle royal to take over the GM job of Smackdown this Friday. Zack is psyched, obviously, and calls it ZACKDown (har har har), saying he’ll do a better job than a lame computer could do. This prompts Santino to pull out his Sherlock Holmes kit, putting on the hat, magnifying glass and pipe. He mentions that he is determined to find the true identity of the Anonymous Raw General Manager before the night is out, before going off looking at stuff. Somehow I get a feeling this could be either a really clever pay off, or the dumbest thing I’ve seen in years. This is the WWE, so it could go either way sadly.

Back to RAW with an announcement of a tweet posted prior to Raw starting, The Rock stating he will be at the 1000th episode in two weeks, and will fulfill his promise of going after the WWE Title. Whether it will be a challenge, match, or declaring a match down the line, it should be interesting to see what goes down in two weeks.

Match No. Two: Tyson Kidd/Intercontinental Champion Christian versus Tensai/Dolph Ziggler

DOUBLE JOBBER ENTRANCE! Match picks up right away with Tyson Kidd and Dolph Ziggler. Kidd makes a charge at Tensai in the corner, allowing Ziggler to go on the attack. Dolph holds the offensive advantage before Kidd floors him with a flipping neckbreaker. Tyson makes the hot tag to Christian who continues the beating, leading DZ to tag in not-so-Lord Tensai.

Take that you non-japanese guy!

Christian is relentless with his attack the white dude pretending to be Japanese, until Tensai’s manager Sakamoto distracts the referee, allowing for Ziggler to hold Christian long enough to be crushed in the corner. Tensai hits a running senton splash on the Intercontinental Champion to pick up the victory.Afterwards, Tensai manhandles Tyson Kidd on the outside, which is really sad, when you consider that he has about two-hundred pounds I’m guessing a good 8-10 inches on the cruiserweight Kidd.

Meanwhile at the headquarters of the Legion of – whoops, wrong genre. Back at the broadcast table, resident d-bag Michael Cole and Hall of Fame creeper Jerry “The King” aka “I’m sixty and wear bedazzled Ed Hardy shirts every week” Lawler are arguing over who should be the permanent GM of Raw and Smackdown when the Anonymous Raw computer GM chimes in, claiming that he had missed seeing the two of them bicker and that they should have a WrestleMania rematch. It only takes another thirty seconds or so before another message comes up notifying that the WWE Universe will have a chance to vote the match to happen or not.

I’m both fuming and spamming WWE.com voting no as we speak. If this match happens, I will cry. I swear to you I will cry. I don’t often comment on the WWE “did you know?” segments, but this one feels particularly sad to me:

“If you watched 1 hour of RAW every day, I t would take almost 5 and ½ years to watch every show.”

Immediately I begin to wonder what I have done with my life. However, there is no time to waste! We get another Brodus Clay (squash?) match!

Match No. Three: Brodus Clay versus Drew McIntyre

Remember those tears I claimed I’d cry? Well I’m crying them right now, because this is indeed going to be a squash match, against Drew McIntyre. I will go on record to say that I love Drew Mc and think his ring work has gotten so much better despite the raw deal that he’s been served the last year. Nevertheless, Drew gets a single kick on the Funkasaurus before taking a sick looking headbutt to the chest and a standing splash for yet another L in the record books.

This is going to hurt me, more than it hurts either of you...

Next we have Santino continuing his buffoonery, in search of the Anon GM, stumbling across Chris Jericho. Marella accuses Jericho, before he has it turned around on him.

Several “hmm’s” later, Santino storms off stage left as Big Show enters stage right. Chris talks to him about how they were one of the greatest tag teams that ever lived and tonight they have a chance to weaken Cena and Kane before the Money in the Bank match this Sunday. Show interrupts him and pretty much tells him “stay out of my way and I wont punch you in the face really, really hard”.

Match No. Four: John Cena & Kane versus Chris Jericho and Big Show

Anyone remember how less than five months ago Kane was trying to get Cena to “embrace the hate”? Now they are tag team partners tonight and asked to embrace the friendship (cue the rainbows).

Cena comes out and talks about the four-way at MitB and the risks/rewards involved in the Money in the Bank match. Oh yeah, Cena stands by his word dammit! That word being the promises he will stop the unstoppable Big Show, and second that he will win Money in the Bank.

Give me back my happy meal toy!

A lot of back and forth action, starting with Cena and Jericho. Eventually we get tags in and have Kane and Big show trading shots. The showcase of this match is obviously Cena vs. Show, as they spend the biggest fraction of the match going toe-to-toe. Once more we have Kane and Show going at it, with Kane hitting a running DDT, and Big Show hitting a spear that Jerry Lawler calls out about a solid three seconds before it happens.

The match concludes with Cena receiving the hot tag, connecting with the Five Knuckle Shuffle, and Attitude Adjustment on Jericho. He pins Chris Jericho for a two-count before Show pulls him out of the ring. For reasons unknown to me, the referee calls for the bell and disqualification, despite that never counting as one before! Show hurls Cena into the barricade, and proceeds to remove a number of ladders from under the ring and lay waste to Jericho and Kane. Super Cena returns to the ring with a ladder and sends Big Show over the top rope to end the segment.

Returning from commercial, we have CM Punk backstage warming up for the match tonight as Eve drops in to talk. She wishes him luck tonight, claiming that if he doesn’t say “I do” tonight, that AJ may do everything in her power to make sure he doesn’t walk out of Phoenix on Sunday as the WWE Champion. Eve continues by saying that it must be hard, being overshadowed by Cena, and The Rock and how it must be emasculating.

On to the running joke of the night, “Sherlock Marella” in search of the identity of the RAW GM stumbles across a cell phone and believes it is the phone belonging to said Anonymous Raw GM. The Great Khali comes into picture and takes the phone out of Sherl—err Santino’s hand. Santino asks Khali if he is the Anonymous Raw General Manager, and Khali says yes. Stunned, he asks again and Khali says no. One final time (at least I hope) he asks, to which Khali responds “who that?”. Santino walks away, and the good ol’ fashioned racism moment of the night, Khali looks at the iPhone in his hand and says “what is…cell phone?”

This is how I choose to spend my Monday nights, folks. Ten bucks to whoever can tell me why.

We get the announcement that the WWE Tag Team Championships will be on the line Sunday, as R-Truth and Kofi Kingston face Hunico and Camacho! Nevermind that the “Prime Time Players” are the #1 contenders to the tag team champs. Nevermind indeed!

Match No. Five: World Heavyweight Championship Money in the Bank Qualifying Match Sin Cara versus Heath Slater

Jobber entrances aplenty, this time Heath Slater is getting one. I get the mysticism of the lighting change during Sin Cara’s matches, but it is a bit obnoxious and has to be uncomfortable for eyes to adjust to for a bit.

Anyways, Heath holds Sin Cara back, keeping him grounded early on. Eventually the Mexican luchadore gets reversal and the advantage, doing some nifty flippy things before his tornado arm breaker finisher to get the last spot in the Heavyweight MitB match!

Lucha Libre to the rescue!

After the match we get Heath going on a rant angrily about how things aren’t fair, and that he is a future champion. Slater issues an open challenge to any former champion. Much in same vein of recent weeks, Heath is greeted by a former WWE Legend in Bob Backlund.

Yes, you read that right, former World Champion Bob Backlund answers the call. We are reminded that Backlund holds the second-longest streak as champion in WWE history. There is no referee in the ring, so there is really no actual match, but I will tell you that Heath Slater went to clothesline the legend and was quickly dispatched with the cross-face chicken wing submission.

This next part I don’t want to write, but because I can’t just omit things, I will do so… for you reader! The poll was revealed, 75% in favor of a Michael Cole v. Jerry Lawler match tonight (sigh).

It’s all rigged, I swear to you. Every single person that I spoke to spammed the poll like crazy voting no, because who really wants to see this match happen again?! Wouldn’t be surprised if for every “no” there were a dozen or so “yes” votes. We go to commercial and come back with Booker T and Josh Mathews at the broadcast desk to call this horrendous match. Cole tries to run out of the ring right away to avoid a Lawler attack, and Booker tosses him back in the ring behind the referee’s back. The King fakes a handshake, opting for an airplane spin to Cole up on his shoulders, followed by a three-count to end the match. The computer chimes in once again, reversing the decision because of Booker T’s interference.

Here comes Santino claiming that he’s searched all around the arena for the GM. If he isn’t anywhere else, he has to be under the ring. Nonsense occurred, leading to Santino being pulled under the ring. Lawler would come to his rescue, pulling Hornswoggle and a RAW laptop along with him. ‘Swoggle ends up in the ring, kicks Lawler in the shin, shoves his face in Santino’s lower back (yeesh), and kicks Cole in the shin before taking off up the ramp.

This whole damn thing has been useless! Remember when I mentioned earlier it could pay off or be the dumbest thing? Well I should have known better, it is after all the WWE. I can not confirm or deny whether or not I am crying.

Match No. Six: WWE Champion CM Punk/AJ Lee versus Daniel Bryan/Eve Torres

The match was never really meant to be much. Daniel Bryan and CM Punk started it off, and they always do good work together. AJ makes the force tag, which in mixed tag rules means Eve must come in as well. AJ and Eve brawl back and forth for a few minutes before Eve tries to tag D-Bry back in. Bryan steps off the ropes and refuses the tag, allowing AJ to get a roll-up pin for the victory.

Post-match, Punk grabs a microphone and tells AJ that he doesn’t care if what he says costs him the title, but he will not marry her and he is sorry if that hurts her. She looks crushed for a minute, before nodding and saying something. Out of nowhere she lunges forward and gives Punk the old fashioned five across the face which causes CM Punk to go angry face.

Like a weird creepy person, Daniel Bryan starts screaming “COME HOME! COME HOME AJ!” She walks up to him and slaps him across the face as well. AJ Lee stands in the middle of the ring giggling and chanting “YES! YES! YES!” and the crowd eats it up as she exits to end the show.

So there you have it July 9th 2012 is in the books. I don’t know what the hell they are doing, and all bets are off heading into Money in the Bank. That being said, this was poor for a go-home show. Too many squash matches, the Raw GM reveal was outright insulting as a fan, and I am afraid that the WWE is on its way to destroying the best storyline they currently have going.

Thank you all so much for the read, hopefully you found some enjoyment out of it, and I look forward to bringing you the best and worst of Monday Night Raw on the RAW Rundown!
