Steven Spielberg Produced Live-Action HALO TV Series Announced During Xbox One Reveal
Microsoft just wrapped their huge presentation rolling out the new Xbox, called Xbox One, a little while ago. There were a ton of teasers and clips for the new console and some of the upcoming games, but tucked away in all the fanfare was the announcement that Steven Spielberg would be involved with a live-action HALO TV series.
Microsoft has been trying to get a HALO movie based off the mega-successful game off the ground for a while. Peter Jackson was attached to work on it at one time and so was Neil Blomkamp. Blomkamp was going to direct the movie back in the early 2000s, but left the project after some creative differences regarding what Microsoft would and wouldn’t let him do with the franchise. That worked out for Blomkamp at least, he made District 9 instead. It seems that Microsoft has found a different way to get a HALO project going with the Xbox One.
Spielberg isn’t a stranger to HALO. He was connected to a HALO movie back in 2011 with his studio DreamWorks. It’s not a movie, but Spielberg will be producing an exclusive TV series. The series will be done in a similar fashion to Netflix‘s shows and the highly successful House of Cards. The show will be released through the console. It will be produced by Spielberg and developed by 343 Industries. There aren’t a lot of other details right now, but the legendary director had this to say in a per-recorded statement:
The Halo universe is an amazing opportunity to be at that intersection where technology and myth-making meet to produce something truly groundbreaking.
Now the official Xbox Twitter account sent out this Tweet. At the panel they said he would only produce. Either the Twitter team messed up or they’ve gone rogue and revealed a huge piece of info. Below the Tweet is two videos from the presentation. The first is the unveil video for the console. The second video is titled Xbox Anthem. It features the likes of Spielberg and JJ Abrams, but it’s kind of a weird video. It’s like they want you to join a cult or enroll in an online college. Anyway, check them out below. What do you think of this announcement? Are you hoping it’s in the same vein as the recent HALO webseries Forward Unto Dawn?
