STAR WARS VII Update Confirms Shooting Dates And Possibly More

star warsIt has been a while since we’ve heard about Star Wars Episode VII, and even longer since we’ve heard something official. J.J. Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan are supposedly done with the script and things are being set up at Pinewood Studios in the U.K. right now so Abrams can begin filming soon. Well today we have an idea of just how soon cameras will start rolling thanks to an update by Drew McWeeny at HitFix. It seems the trains are running right on time and we’ve even gotten a complete timetable.

According to the ever reliable McWeeny, multiple sources have confirmed the filming dates for the highly anticipated Star Wars movie from Disney that will kick off an entirely new era of adventures in a galaxy far, far away:

Multiple sources now have confirmed for us that “Star Wars Episode VII” is set to start shooting mid-May and will run through September of this year, and most principal casting on the film is complete, with many announcements still to come. While Abrams had mentioned May during the TCA press tour and there had been speculation about the summer date, the full production schedule was finally confirmed for us.

If filming takes place from Mid-March to September, that means Abrams and company have a little over a year to work on post production. That means over a full year of CGI and special effects work that can be added in with the practical effects to sharpen things up and fully realize the world Abrams is building. The director says he wants to make things feel very close to the original trilogy, so he’ll have plenty of time to try and make it happen.

McWeeny also went on and said that he hasn’t had it confirmed conclusively, he thinks everyone who could possibly make an return for Episode VII will make a return. He says that even includes Billy Dee Williams aka Lando. That info isn’t as solid as the filming dates, but if they’re passing it along I say it’s a pretty safe bet. So somewhere out there work is underway and filming is about to start in the next several weeks. What do you think about the new update? When do you think we’ll hear some official casting news?
