Star Wars Movies Hitting Theaters Every Summer Starting in 2015
It’s been a while since we’ve heard some news from the Star Wars front, but worry no more as we have some pretty big news coming out of CinemaCon. We’ve known for some time that Walt Disney and LucasFilm were planning a 2015 release date for its planned Episode VII project, but we never got confirmation on when in 2015. We can now say that it will indeed be summer of that year.
In addition to that, we can expect a new Star Wars-centered film every summer after that. This includes the previously announced stand-alone films. So, as it stands, we’ll see the new trilogy alternate with the solo/stand alone films that will be based on previously featured characters. We have yet to hear which characters will recieve the solo film treatment, but if speculations end up being accurate, we can expect films based on Boba Fett, Yoda, Han Solo and possibly Darth Maul, who was also rumored.
Disney, who purchased LucasFilm in a surpise move last fall, has mentioned big plans for the interstellar franchsie before, saying they’d like to have a schedule similar to the James Bond franchise, which normally puts out a film about every two years or so. But having a new film out every year? That’s a fairly large undertaking!
As we know, JJ Abrams landed the job of helming the upcoming Episode VII film, which is currently being written by Michael Arndt. We also know that Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford are expected to reprise their iconic roles, but how they will fit into the story is still unknown at this time.
