Star Wars 8 And 9 May Have Found Their Writers

While the only thing we know about Star Wars Episode 7 right now is that Micahel Arndt has been hired to script the first part of the new installment, everyone and their mother wants a part in it, and a lot of directors have said they aren’t involved. We’re still waiting on more solid news on Episode 7 with anticipation, but there may already be some news about Episodes 8 and 9 in the way of writing.
According to Deadline, Disney has approached Lawrence Kasdan and Simon Kinberg to get things going with the next installments mapped out by George Lucas. Kasdan scripted two big films in the 80s, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. He also had a hand in Raiders of the Lost Ark. Kinberg, on the other hand, has worked on X-Men: First Class as well as the upcoming Days of Future Past and Sherlock Holmes (the RDJ one).
While Star Wars rumors on all fronts are a dime a dozen nowadays, this one seems to have been given some credence over the last few minutes. Borys Kit, of The Hollywood Reporter, has said sources confirm the pair are writing one of the upcoming episodes and their division of labor is to be determined. The duo will also be putting on producer hats as well.
Here’s what I’m hearing on the Star Wars writers: not courting but that deals are closed. And they will also be producers. #StarWars

It’s very promising news that Kasdan is taking part in the new set of films. Return of the Jedi is widely recognized as the best Star Wars films, so hopefully he can capture that magic again while giving the franchise the fresh take it needs. What do you think about the news, even though it’s jumping ahead of us learning anything concrete about Episode 7?
