SDCC ’13: Howard Chaykin Returns To The Shadow After 30 Years
Dynamite is winning the Comic-Con pre-show news cycle. The comics publisher has announced top talent after top talent coming over to play with toys like Red Sonja, Heroes, and now The Shadow. Thirty years after writing Blood & Judgement, legendary writer and artist Howard Chaykin will return to the world of The Shadow. The new series called The Shadow: Midnight In Moscow will take place three decades prior to to Chaykin‘s acclaimed Blood & Judgement series and fill in some of the gaps. He will be both writing and providing art for the series.
Chaykin has been providing numerous covers for the character over the years, but the writer is glad to finally get to do some work on the inside of the book now:
I’m delighted and grateful to Dynamite for the opportunity to work once again on so legendary a character as The Shadow. My new miniseries, The Shadow: Midnight in Moscow, tells the secret story behind the Shadow’s disappearance in 1949.
Chaykin has a legendary list of works, but he’s been seen most recently with Matt Fraction as the artist for Satellite Sam. This will be a high-profile return not only to The Shadow, but writing a new series as well. You can check out the artwork for the Midnight in Moscow below. Chaykin‘s distinct style is on display as you can tell by the way Lamont Cranston looks. What do you think of Chaykin‘s return?
