SDCC ’12: Nathan Edmondson To Pen New Ultimate Iron Man Series

The mini series will be dubbed “Demon in the Armor” and will be on shelves sometime in October. This will be written by Nathan Edmondson and penciled by Matteo Buffagni. This new four part series is something new that Marvel is starting hopefully featuring other Marvel icons in the future.

With Iron Man 3 in the pipeline, Marvel is preparing to unleash several projects.

One of these projects has been announced in the Ultimate Marvel panel, a four issue series dedicated to Iron Man from the writer Nathan Edmondson (known for the Image series “Who is Jake Ellis?” and drawings from Matthew Buffagini (Daken: Dark Wolverine). The story is titled “Demon in the Armor,” and will feature the Mandarin, the historic Iron Man enemy, who is rumored to also be the villain of the upcoming Iron Man 3.

Newsarama interviewed Edmondson, who recounted what he likes about Iron Man, his point of view on the Ultimate version of the character and some of the themes explored in-depth “Demon in Armor.”

Edmondson said:

“We’re not drawing from the script [of the film], if anything, we are drawing from the Ultimates continuity, the miniseries will revolve around the ‘legacy, heritage and generations.”

One of the curiosities about this four issue series is that its somewhat based around the famous Iron Man storyline entitled “Demon In A Bottle”, in which Iron Man faced alcoholism problems.
