Say What?! Lex Luthor Is The Hero Of Forever Evil?
Everything we thought we knew about Forever Evil was a lie! The villains will indeed be taking advantage of the power vacuum left by the Trinity War, but it’s not going to be Lex Luthor and his band of baddies that we’ve seen in various pieces of preview art. Geoff Johns recently spoke with IGN about the upcoming event and revealed a ton of juicy details about what’s going to happen. There are spoilers for Justice League #23 as well as some big teasers for Forever Evil, obviously. Read on at your own discretion.
Johns says that Justice League #23 will see the world believing the various Justice Leagues are dead. We won’t know what happened to them or where the members are for a while, but Forever Evil spins out of the events of that mystery. The series will see the DC Universe‘s status quo changing in a major way. A lot of the big changes won’t be seen in some of the DC titles until the conclusion of Forever Evil #7, but a few books will see the changes taking place monthly. Johns said “There are some major events that happen to some of our heroes and villains, and those are all reflected in the monthly books at the end of [the series], except for the ones that tie-in directly like the Justice League titles, Suicide Squad, and Teen Titans. Those books will be up-to-speed monthly.“
We hear about “status quo changing” events all the time in comics. This one does seem to be living up to the hype though. The writer revealed that the Crime Syndicate will be shown as the higher power behind the events of the Trinity War. The famous group of Earth 3 villains will be leading the charge to take over the world. The characters breaking through into the main DC Universe will be Ultraman, Owlman, Superwoman, Johnny Quick, Power Ring, and a new member called Deathstorm. The Crime Syndicate will assemble some of the DCU‘s villains to help in their conquest, but Johns says not everyone is going to be willing to join up. This leads to a huge battle of the villains:
[The Crime Syndicate] make themselves known and they enact their mission to take over. They will lead an army of super villains, but not every villain sees things the way they do. Every villain in the DC Universe wants something different and not all of them want to rule the world. Or at least, not all of them want to rule the world in the way the Crime Syndicate do.
One of the villains leading the charge against the new group is Lex Luthor. Johns says that Luthor will be forming his own villain-filled version of the Justice League to try and put the Crime Syndicate in check. Johns had a lot more to say about Forever Evil, and you can check it out by clicking here. Johns teased that there were a lot more twists and turns in store. As you can see in one of the group shots below, Batman is joined up with Luthor but Johns raises the question as to whether or not that’s really Batman behind the cowl. What do you think about the Crime Syndicate coming back? How do you feel about Lex Luthor being the “hero” of the event?
