Saoirse Ronan Sidesteps Those Scarlet Witch Rumors: Would Love To Do A Comic Book Movie Though
We know the original Avengers cast are returning, James Spader will be the sequel’s bad guy, and Aaron-Taylor Johnson will more than likely be Quicksilver. One of the few things we don’t know about Avengers: Age of Ultron is who will play the Scarlet Witch. Elizabeth Olsen is said to be the new frontrunner and could even be close to closing a deal to star in the Joss Whedon helmed sequel. We’re still just waiting to see what happens. Before the other famous Olsen sibling was rumored for the role though, the part was said to be molded after Saoirse Ronan. The actress may have been Whedon‘s first pick, but she ended up passing on the role when it was offered. During a recent interview at the Toronto International Film Festival the actress was asked about the rumors. She was glad to answer them…kind of.
Speaking with Collider about her new movie How I Live Now, Ronan was asked if she would like to star in a comic book movie. The actress again reasserts that while she’s not a big comic book fan herself, she appreciates folks who are and would absolutely love to take on a female superhero role:
I’d love to. I would absolutely love to. I think even just getting a taste of that sort of genre with Hanna, which is something that it kind of turned into very gradually, was really exciting. It was a whole different world. I find people that are really into that stuff…I’m not really, but people that are really into it are so cool. They’re so passionate about it. You go to places like Comic-Con and they just know everything about these characters. I would love to do something like that if I could.
When pressed further and asked if she had any discussions about joining The Avengers as the Scarlet Witch, Ronan would neither confirm or deny. She dodged the question with skill only seen in actors much. One day we may learn whether or not she was in contention, but today is not that day:
For The Avengers? No, well I’m not doing The Avengers. So I think that was just like a rumor. Yeah, yeah.
There hasn’t been anything to indicate whether or not the rumors about Scarlet Witch being based on Ronan are true, but there seems to have been some fire to all the smoke we saw. The actress ended up passing on the film for one reason or another. Elizabeth Olsen is a fantastic actress. If she does end up landing the role and stars alongside Aaron-Taylor Johnson, then we shouldn’t have any problems at all. What do you think about Ronan‘s comments?
