Rumor: AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON Plot Points, Costume Changes & More
The highly anticipated sequel to one of the biggest movies to ever grace the silver screen, The Avengers, is currently filming in various locations around the globe. Details on the main story are still pretty scarce, but we do know a few things, such as how the brother/sister duo of Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen respectively, come to joining the Avengers (more on that in a bit) and that Ultron, played by the always impressive James Spader, will be the main focus of the team. There’s been a few things that can be assumed from the set pics that we’ve seen as well as some news regarding the look of Vision, which we scooped earlier this year. More details are likely to become available as production carries on, with some, hopefully, big news or clips revealed at this year’s San Diego Comic Con.
In the mean time, we have to rely on scoops and rumors to get our news and this morning, JoBlo has some for us to gnaw on. Please be warned that some of the information may be considered SPOILERS and that you should not read any further if you want to remain spoiler free. With that warning out of the way, let me issue another one. None of the information that follows has been confirmed by anyone involved with Avengers: Age of Ultron and should be taken with a grain of salt. With that said, let’s get on with the rumors, shall we?
First up, we’ve seen some images of robots on the scene of the filming locations, some that have a rather unique look to them, but it can be a safe assumption to say that they/it are indeed Ultron. According to the source, the big baddie will actually have several version throughout the film, and as he has done the comics, will be continuously updating himself. He will be coated in Vibranium and will be on a search for more of the precious material. Now, it should be noted that in the comics, this material is notoriously found in the fictional location of Wakanda, the home of Black Panther. Could this mean that T’Challa may be mentioned? Or should we be so lucky, actually appear in the film? As mentioned earlier, James Spader will be playing the titular character and is expected to be doing some mo-cap for at least one iteration of the villain.
As far as the Avengers team, there is really nothing too surprising here. The source says that Tony Stark will be bank-rolling the team since the events of The Winter Soldier revealed that S.H.I.E.L.D. is in shambles and virtually non-existent. All control of the agency is now in the hands of Phil Coulson. As was alluded to at the end of The Avengers and very briefly in The Winter Soldier, the team will now be housed in the Stark Tower, now known as The Avengers Tower. Speaking of Stark, the site also says that and “Iron Legion” will be used to aid in global security efforts. The robots, very similar to those seen in Iron Man 3, will serve as drones for the wealthy hero. Now, I’m very iffy on this bit, as Tony destroyed the army he’d built at the end of the last film, why would he rebuild them once more? Possibly because of the collapse of S.H.I.E.L.D.? We’ll have to see on that one.
As we learned earlier this year, Vision will indeed be in the film, played by Paul Bettany and he will be sporting his iconic green and yellow get up. According to the source, the character won’t make his full appearance until the third act of the film. How the character will fit into the story has yet to be revealed, but it is expected that JARVIS, who has been Iron Man’s trust sidekick, will transition into a full-fledged robot rather than a virtual assistant. Don’t be surprised to see the character take on a sacrificial role in the film. The source claims that War Machine will make a cameo in the film and that it is confirmed. It is rumored that Falcon will also appear in a small role, but no confirmation on that bit.
We’ve also noticed in some of the set pics that all the Avengers will now be sporting the team logo on all their uniforms, which the source reiterates. Black Widow will be using some new baton/shock weapons as a part of her arsenal, with Hulk donning some new “stretch pants” that will grow/shrink with him as he transitions- I really hope they are purple. We’ve seen Hawkeye sporting a longer jacket in set pics, but expect him to also be wearing a long-sleaved jacket as well.
As can be expected, there will be numerous battles in the film. One that the source describes takes place in a forested area and is expected to be featured towards the beginning of the film. This is possibly- but not confirmed- where the Avengers first encounter Baron Von Strucker and his new acquisitions Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver. This will also be the first “hero shot” of the film, seeing the entire team assembeld. A perfect location for Captain America or Iron Man to shout the iconic “AVENGERS ASSEMBLE!” line. Here’s to hoping.
That’s it for now. Again, take this news with a grain of salt…or more. As can be expected, Joss Whedon and company are keeping things pretty quiet and playing things close to the vest for now. As filming goes on, we’ll hopefully get more news and with Comic Con inching closer, let’s hope we get a trailer of some sort.
Avengers: Age of Ultron will star Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Robert Downey Jr, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johanssen, Jeremy Renner, James Spader, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany. Joss Whedon is once again directing. The film will hit theaters May 1, 2015.
