Roberto Orci Emerges As Frontrunner To Helm STAR TREK 3
In a rather surprising move, JJ Abrams opted not to renew his contract to direct the third film in the rebooted Star Trek franchise that he helped breathe new life into. Instead, he took on the daunting task of helming the latest installment in the iconic Star Wars franchise. Since then, fans have been waiting to hear who would be taking Abrams’ place in the director’s chair and now, we may have our answer.
Deadline is reporting that Star Trek producer and writer Roberto Orci is in talks to direct the film. This would be Orci’s first time serving as director, but Paramount and their partner Skyance look to be willing to take a chance on him. This news comes on the tail of Orci splitting from long-time writing partner Alex Kurtzman, who will be directing his own feature film in Sony’s take on Sinister Six. The pair will still continue to work on television projects.
No deal has been struck just yet, but it’s quite likely this will happen. All of the cast from the first two films are expected to return, including Chris Pine, Zachery Quinto, zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, John Cho and Anton Yelchin. No release date has been set, but expect things to jump into warp speed once Orci, or whoever the director is, signs on. Stay tuned to Comic Book Therapy for all the details.
