Robert Redford Says He is The Head Of S.H.I.E.L.D.
It was announced earlier that Robert Redford would be joining the cast of Captain America: The Winter Soldier in what could amount to a sizable role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It was an unexpected announcement, but one welcomed by may since Redford is such a high caliber actor. In a recent roundtable for his new film, The Company You Keep, Redford gave a little more info on who he’ll play.
Spinoff asked him about playing an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., but Redford clarified that he will in fact be the head of the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division:
Well, the head of S.H.I.E.L.D. the head of S.H.I.E.L.D. The Captain America thing is just a very simple thing. I wanted to do something different. I wanted to do something just to be different. Something bold, different. And that felt like a good thing to do. That was it, nothing more to it than that. Well, it’s bold in terms of expectations, I guess.
So there you have it, Redford won’t be a lowly agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., he’s the head honcho. This opens up a lot of possibilities and may even hint that Redford will appear in multiple films. Redford joins Chris Evans, Sebastian Stan, Toby Jones, Sam Jackson, and a lot more for the Russo Brothers directed film coming out April 4, 2014. What do you think about Redford as the head of S.H.I.E.L.D.? Do you think we’ll see him in more Marvel films?
