“SCIENCE OF YOU”
The Li’l Depressed Boy’s world is growing and the past is starting its long journey in the rearview. What does the future hold for LDB? Featuring a wraparound cover by the often magical INVINCIBLE and SCIENCE DOG co-creator, CORY WALKER.
We continue the misadventures of LDB as written by S. Steven Struble with the recently freed up Sina Grace on art. Grace left behind editing Skybound books such as The Walking Dead to focus on being a full-time artist. This time we find LDB in a relatively happy state.
When last we saw LDB he got the surprise of a lifetime when his manager Spike asked him out to dinner mere moments after he chickened out of asking her himself. This issue looks at how LDB psychs himself up, or out in his case, for the big dinner date. Things have been looking up for LDB over the last couple of issues. Are they going to have to change the name of the comic to the Slightly Depressed Boy, or do things go as you’d expect in a LDB comic? I don’t want to give it away, but there are surprises to be had in this issue.
This new story arch has really picked up from the last one. I’ve been on record saying I really dug the road trip arc, but thought the next one was a good, but weaker punch. This new arc really has grabbed me and made me look forward to what comes next. There’s a Doctor Who reference. That always gets bonus points in my book. Well, there are references to several space and sci-fi shows but Doctor Who gets the most points from me.
Bottom Line: Struble and Grace continue to pull the reader into a story of the highs and lows of a little featureless character who strikes out with the ladies. This is another strong installment in the current arc, and I’m really looking forward to where it goes. I give LDB #13 a 4/5.
