Review: Axe Cop: President of the World #3

“I will chop your head off!”- Axe Cop

Seriously guys, if you aren’t reading Axe Cop you must rectify that immediately! For those of you who don’t know who he is, here is a quick rundown: Axe Cop is a tough, gruffly police officer who uses a fireman’s axe to fight crime.  He has one mission and that is to kill all the bad guys in the world. Most important thing to know about this series is its being written by Malachai Nicolle, eight year-old badass, and drawn by his older brother Ethan Nicolle, who is 31 year-old trapped in a seven year-old body.

Like the title says, Axe Cop is the president of the world and I would say he is doing a damn good job at it. While under attack by evil robots and by a mad scientist, Axe Cop must find a way to save the earth from the ultimate bad guys, Every man and giant gorillas made of goo. I must say, the whole time I was reading this book; I had the biggest smile on my face. Malachai has to be the coolest kid known to man to come up with such a great story. Granted, I don’t know how much help he gets from his brother to help structure the story or if the whole thing is Malachai himself? Regardless this issue is balls-to-wall the whole entire time. So much action is thrown here, all thanks to Malachai and his brother,  it makes a Rambo flick seem like a snooze fest.

We can’t give Malachai all the credit here. His brother, Ethan really makes this book shine here. He not only does the pencil work but inks, lettering and cover art too. His artwork is genius and greatly detailed. His inks are crisp and clean but are heavy when it needs to be. I must say that his character designs are fresh and clever. Even the cover art is beautiful, has an Alex Ross feel to them. One thing I wish there was more of is whole page spreads. I feel like Ethan is a talented artist and should have more room to shine. Lastly, we can’t forget about Dirk E.  Schulz color work. His colors are vibrant and energetic. Combining these two is a match made in heaven!

Axe Cop is a book that is pure fun. I can’t recall the last time I had this much fun reading a comic book. Miles of smiles will be had!

Axe Cop: President of the World #3 gets a 4/5 rating!
