Report: Jason Momoa To Play Aquaman In BATMAN V. SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE
When it comes to such high-profile films like Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice, you’re bound to have endless rumors and speculations until the movie is actually in theaters. It doesn’t help when the studio remains so secretive about their future plans. The result in this formula is the ever-persistent rumor that former Game of Thrones star Jason Momoa would be playing Aquaman/Arthur Curry in the upcoming lead-in to the Justice League film. For months now, we’ve seen this pop up and for just about as long, the actor has denied any involvement in the project, so the news has been left to fester in the rumor mill since. However, that could all be changing today, as a new report, coming from Hitfix, claims that Momoa has indeed signed on to the film and that they know the role he will play in the story.
I guess you could consider some of the information below a bit spoilery so you’ve been warned. According to the site, they have confirmed that Momoa will play Aquaman and that director Zack Snyder has already completed the character’s design for the film so that his parts can be filmed soon. Now, as to how he will fit into the over all story is actually quite intriguing and believable. One of the biggest complaints people had about Man of Steel was that there was no accountability held towards Superman for his, and Zod’s wanton destruction of Metropolis. Many feel that the main plot for the sequel will have Lex Luthor, played by Jesse Eisenberg, rallying the forces against Superman, portraying him as a bad person since he destroyed half the city. Nothing too surprising there.
But, people often forget that on the other side of the planet, The World Engine wreaked havoc on the Indian Ocean and someone is really pissed about it: Aquaman.
I’m not sure if that’s the actual name they’ll use or not, but what we’re hearing is that he is not pleased about the World Engine and what it did to the Indian Ocean. He will not have a major role in the film, but he will make an appearance, and it definitely sets him up to return once Snyder gets to “Justice League.”
Like I said before, that is an interesting way to introduce him to the audience, but they have to be careful not to make the scene(s) look like a passing or forgettable moment. Now, we have no confirmation from Warner Brothers at this point and with this news coming and going from the internet realm for months now, I’m still going to keep the salt shaker at the ready for the time being.
I know some fans are not keen on the idea of Momoa playing the King of Atlantis, as he looks nothing like the character. However, this is a film where Perry White is played by Laurence Fishburne and Superman’s biggest nemesis is played by the kid from Zombieland. Aquaman won’t be an easy character to pull off, so my biggest concern is that he is portrayed well. So is Jason Momoa the right person for the job? I’m not sure just yet.
