Ray Fawkes Talks Constantine: First Look At Issue #1

Hellblazer may be dead, but Constantine is very much alive. The chain-smoking master of the occult is still leading the JL Dark team, and now he’s branching out on his own again. Constantine‘s new series set in the DC 52 kicks off this week from writer Ray Fawkes. USA Today caught up with Fawkes to talk about the new series.
The writer will be partnering up with artist Renatio Guedes to steer the Brit antihero in a new director. Fawkes talks about the difference from JL Dark Constantine and solo series Constantine:
You realize the team player face is a face he puts on. He’s not really that kind of guy. He’s very much an operator who knows what he needs to do to get things done. It’s almost like as if in one title, he’s a star quarterback and in the other title you find out he’s a professional gambler. It’s what he’s doing with the team vs. what he’s doing when he’s not there.
This series will see Constantine going it alone to fight things he doesn’t want to get the team involved in, whether it’s because he doesn’t want to risk them getting hurt or he thinks they’ll mess it up remains to be seen. Fawkes did tease that Zatanna and other familiar faces will pop up from time to time though. Along with Fawkes’ interview (you can read the rest of it by clicking here), USA Today unveiled a preview of the first issue. What do you think of the new Constantine series? Will you be picking this one up?
