R.I.P.D. Trailer Is Dead On Arrival
R.I.P.D. is a film we haven’t seen or heard much about. From the first trailer, we can see why it may have taken some time. Robert Schwentke‘s comic book movie began filming in the fall of 2011, and after months of rewrites and reshoots will finally be released on July 19. There have been a few set photos, but we never received any official marketing. That was fixed last week when EW rolled out an official image featuring stars Jeff Bridges and Ryan Reynolds. Now we have our first official trailer.
Because the trailer leaked online earlier today, Universal decided to just go ahead and officially release the HD trailer tonight instead of tomorrow morning as planned. As you can see, it’s really…weird. You can certainly feel a MIB vibe as well. What do you think? Is this a hot mess or a bunch of action-y fun?
R.I.P.D. is an adaptation of the Dark Horse comic series about a recently murdered man (Ryan Reynolds) who is recruited by the Rest In Piece Department, a group of dead detectives who police the after life. He teams up with an old veteran, played by Jeff Bridges, to find out who murdered him. That search will pit him against a character played by Kevin Bacon. Also in the cast are Mary Louise-Parker, Stephanie Szostak, Marissa Miller, and James Hong.
