Pour One Out: A Look at Those Who’ve Passed in 2013

pour-one-outWe’ve lost some pretty influential and prominent people this year, including musicians, artists, writers and athletes. We here at Comic Book Therapy would like to take a moment to recognize some of the folks who’ve left a lasting impression on us, as well as our culture as a whole. So, grab a “40” and take a moment with us to pay your respects to some the of the great ones who are no longer with us.

Jeff Hanneman- Guitarist for the metal band Slayer

Tom Clancy- Author best known for his spy thrillers such as The Hunt for Red October and Patriot Games 

William Alvin “Bill” Moody/Paul Bearer- Famed WWE manager for the likes of Undertaker & Kane

Dennis Farina- Actor known for his roles in Law & Order, Snatch and Midnight Run

Ed Lauter- Character actor best known for his roles in the television series Miami Vice and The Rockford Files

Lou Reed- Songwriter and guitarist. Founder of The Velvet Underground

Lee Thompson Young- Actor known for his roles in Disney’s Famous Jett Jackson, Rizzoli & Isles and Smallville

Marcia Wallace- Actress best known for her voice work on The Simpsons

Robin Sachs- Actor best known for his part in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Babylon 5 and Star Trek: Voyager series

Harry Reems- Former porn actor, known for his role in the famed Deep Throat

David Frost- Journalist known for his interview with President Nixon

Margaret Thatcher- Former U.K. Prime Minister, first woman to hold the position

Joey Covington- Drummer for Jefferson Airplane

Elmore Leonard- Author known for Out of Sight, Get Shorty, and 3:10 to Yuma

Eileen Brennan- Actress known for her role as Mrs. Peacock in the film Clue

Lisa Robin Kelly- Actress best known for her role as Laurie Foreman on The 70’s Show

George Jones- Famed country singer

Richard Griffiths- Actor best known for his role of Vernon Dursley in the Harry Potter films

Annette Funicello- Actress best known for her part in the Mickey Mouse Club

Jean Stapleton- Actress known for her role of Edith Bunker on All in the Family

Jonathan Winters- Famed comedian and actor

Ray Manzarek- Founding keyboardist for the rock band The Doors

Shain Gandee- Star of the popular Buckwild series on MTV

Chris Kelly- Member of the famed Kriss Kross rap duo

Mindy McCready- Country musician

Roger Ebert- Famed movie critic and author

James Gandolfini- Actor best known for his role in the hit HBO series The Sopranos

Cory Monteith- Actor known for his role on the hit musical series Glee

Paul Walker- Actor known for his parts in the popular Fast & Furious films

Ray Harryhausen- Movie special effect pioneer

Jim Kelly- Actor and martial arts specialist best known for his role in Enter the Dragon

Conrad Bain- Actor known for his role of Mr. Drummond on Diff’rent Strokes

Mel Smith- Actor best known for his role of The Albino in The Princess Bride

Tommy Morrison- Actor and boxer

Peter O’Toole- Acclaimed actor known for his roles in Lawrence of Arabia, The Last Emporer and numerous others

Nelson Mandela- Political and civil rights activist and former president of South Africa

Richard Matheson- Author best known for I Am Legend and What Dreams May Come

Carmine Infantino- Comic book artist best known for his work on Batman, The Flash and Animal Man

Chi Cheng- Bassist for the metal band The Deftones

Clive Burr- Drummer for Iron Maiden

We’d like to send our condolences to the families and friends of these folks and to all of the others that are not mentioned above. Thank you for all of your contributions you’ve made and for the impact you’ve had on generations of fans around the globe. We’d also like to send our thoughts and prayers to the victims and families to all of those effected by the various acts of violence that occurred in schools, theaters, temples and other locations throughout the year.
