Possible Script Details From Michael Bay’s Ninja Turtles

Michael Bay has had a uphill battle with his Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot since he made the remark that the turtles would be aliens. The fans freaked out and people involved with the turtle’s throughout their history took sides on both sides of the issue. Bay made comments on his message board after the uproar and asked for fans to “chill.” Then the movie was delayed.

The delay is said to be because of a lot of things, but it really seems that the uproar caused the film to be looked at again and adjusted. The official word is that it was pushed to coincide with the 30th Anniversary. Well, the script written by Andre Nemec and Josh Applebaum was codenamed “The Blue Door” and it may have leaked out recently. There is no confirmation, but it was online and people were able to read it for a couple of days. I got to read it, and the first 1/3 of it was pretty good. Then it began to take a turn for the worse.

Casey and April are turned into an 18yr old ex-couple, which is bearable since the turtles had a lot of action and great one liners. They did seem to give Raph some Mikey dialogue but it worked overall. Then they fought on top of a subway car. There the military man with an army of so-called “foot soldiers” named Colonel Schrader was revealed to be an alien from Dimension X working for Krang. It turned out the Turtles were a prophesied group of brothers who would end the long war with Krang. They even meet an old turtle who tells them all this.

I’m not going to go over it with a fine-toothed comb and point out everything, but the folks over at Latino Review made a nifty video that hits all the gut-wrenching points. You can check it out by clicking here.

The site TMNT, Not TANT broke the story of the script that gained attention from other sites. They were given a cease and desist order from Paramount according to them. Again I have to stress that this seems to be an early draft of the script and may not be the real deal, but a lot of people are saying it is indeed legit. Peter Laird, co-creator of TMNT, is said to have opined this when the TANT story was pointed out to him on his blog:

Someone else alerted me to the existence of this script, and I just a few minutes ago finished reading it. If it is, in fact, the actual draft that was rejected and caused the production of the next TMNT movie to be pushed back to 2014 because the script was unsatisfactory, then I think all true TMNT fans should be grateful to the new “powers that be” that they did not allow this wretched thing to go any further. It could definitely be taken as a good sign if that is the case. It reminds me of one of the reasons I am glad to not own the property anymore… because I don’t have to tear what little hair I have left out while trying to fix junk like this. — PL

Nemec and Apllebaum have written Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol and several TV show, so they definitely have talent.  While Paramount has remained mum, it reads like they have been knocked into a tizzy of the stories. Of course these things seldom get confirmed when they’re bad, but it sounds like some of the things we heard about Bay’s Turtles may have been true and the uproar by the fans caused the delay. Regardless, what do you think of Teenage Mutant Alien Turtles? Is it worse than you thought, or are you ok with most of it?
