Peter David To Write A New SPIDER-MAN 2099 Ongoing Series

by

2099Fans thought it was a pretty safe bet that Miguel O’Hara coming to the present day in the pages of Superior Spider-Man meant the web-slinger from the future would be getting his own series once again. There was even a rumor that Peter David, who wrote 44 of the 46 issues from the series original run, would be penning the character’s new adventures. Well today all those rumors and bits of speculation have been proven to be true. Newsarama revealed earlier today that Spider-Man 2099 would be launching this July with writer Peter David and artist Will Sliney (Fearless Defenders).

Along with the cover from Simone Bianchi for the first issue and some of Sliney‘s sketches for the costume, Newsarama had a few words from the creative team. The new artist for the series is looking forward to the ‘man out of time‘ aspect of the series. Sliney tells the site, “Miguel is now trapped in the present day Marvel Universe, so straight away we have to deal with the fact that in the greatest of Marvel traditions, we have a hero out of time. I’m looking forward to drawing that iconic costume in the surroundings of some of New York’s gritty and textured looking neighborhoods.David revealed that the story would see someone attempting to “remove Miguel violently” from the current timeline. Our hero will also be pursuing the people who are selling Spider Slayers to foreign countries. Spider-Man 2099 will also play a part in Dan Slott‘s Spider-Verse storyline, and it’s a safe bet David‘s series will serve as a tie-in when the time comes. You can read a little more from the creative team at the source link below. What do you think about Miguel O’Hara getting his own series in the present day Marvel Universe?
