Peter Capaldi’s DOCTOR WHO Costume Finally Revealed
Peter Capaldi is getting ready to film out in the open in his new costume, so ahead of paparazzi pics getting released online, the BBC has released the first official look at the new Doctor’s costume. There’s no tie, bow or otherwise, to be found here. Capaldi does have a rather dashing jacket though. The costume is somewhat similar to Matt Smith’s, though Capaldi has a sharp dress shoe and his jacket has a red lining reminiscent of Jon Pertwee’s Third Doctor crushed velvet jackets and capes. The official description from the BBC is “a dark blue Crombie coat with red lining, dark blue trousers, a white shirt as well as black Dr. Marten shoes.“
The new look was created by Doctor Who costume designer Howard Burden. It’s a nice costume though I’m sure there will be a few accessories added as Capaldi comes into his own as The Doctor. It has a crazy magician feel, which I kind of dig. Capaldi says of his new digs “He’s woven the future from the cloth of the past. Simple, stark, and back to basics. No frills, no scarf, no messing, just 100 per cent Rebel Time Lord.” Showrunner and head writer Steven Moffat added “New Doctor, new era, and of course new clothes. Monsters of the universe, the vacation is over – Capaldi is suited and booted and coming to get you!” This picture means that set photos and new information about The Doctor will be coming shortly. What do you think about Capaldi’s costume?
