Paul Rudd Says He’s Just Happy To Be Invited To The MARVEL Party With ANT-MAN
Paul Rudd, who was recently revealed as playing the Scott Lang version of Ant-Man in Edgar Wright‘s long gestating Marvel flick, recently talked a little bit about joining the world of superheroes while on the red carpet for his new film. Rudd is starring in They Cam Together, and Flicks and the City used their opportunity to chat with him to get in a couple of Ant-Man questions. The actor remained pretty tight-lipped, but he did share a few things about how excited he is to be working with Wright and Michael Douglas, who is playing an older Hank Pym.
You can skip to the 3:10 mark if you’d rather just hear it from the man himself, but Rudd was asked how it felt to be the newest member of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film hasn’t really started filming yet, but the actor says “it’s all just kind of starting, so it’s really cool. I’m very excited about it.” Rudd does say that he knew a little bit about the size-changing hero and the Marvel world, but it was mainly Edgar Wright that drew him to the project (hat tip to CBM’s MarvelFreshman for the partial transcriptions):
I knew some. I mean I had read some comics and seen movies. Bu I knew Edgar. I’ve been friends with Edgar for many years. The whole thing that it has actually happened, that I got the part, is still kind of surreal. It’s still kind of sinking in over these last several months.
Kevin Feige and Wright have both said Ant-Man is more of a heist film, but people seem to still think it will be an out-and-out comedy considering the director’s previous work. When asked how much comedy will be in the film, Rudd says “I don’t know. We’ll see what Edgar has in mind. We haven’t started shooting any of it yet.“
Here’s the part where answers are short and sweet. Rudd enthusiastically replies to working with Michael Douglas “It’s a thrill. He’s amazing!.” On whether he would be up for Clark Gregg‘s request that Scott Lang stop by Agents of S.H.I.E.l.D. he replies “Yeah. I think he’s [Clark Gregg] great too! I can’t believe I got an invitation to the party.” And finally, on those pesky rumors that Rashida Jones will play Janet Van Dyne aka Wasp:
I follow what comes out online and even then I don’t quite follow it. I let those powers that be announce what they want to announce when they want to announce it. A lot of that stuff you hear is not true.
So while he didn’t reveal too much, you can easily tell Paul Rudd is very excited about the project. With filming to start in just another month or two, hopefully we’ll hear more from Rudd and maybe even see a few pics of him in the costume before long. What do you think about the actor’s comments?
