The already large cast for Marc Webb’s Spider-Man sequel may be getting even bigger. Word is breaking today that Paul Giamatti is in talks to join the sequel as a second villain. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the actor may be joining up as The Rhino.
THR reports that Giamatti is in early talks to be the second villain alongside Jamie Foxx’s already announced Electro, but Felicity Jones is also in negotiations for an unspecified role.Giamatti has been very vocal about his desire to play Rhino in the past. He’s been a longtime fan of the superhuman suit wearing thug from the Soviet. Giamatti talked about his dream role in 2011:
I thought Rhino was the greatest thing when I was a little kid. It was a guy who was basically in this rhinoceros outfit and I always thought, ‘Why don’t they have The Rhino in one of their movies,’ but maybe The Rhino wasn’t that big of a deal for anybody but me…If they ever go with The Rhino I would be ready and waiting.
It seems the actor may not have to wait too long. Production for the Webb directed sequel starts sometime in February in the US and England. We’ll have to keep our ear to the ground to learn who Felicity Jones may be playing, but it seems like it’s a good bet Giamatti will be appearing as The Rhino. What do you think? He’s an odd choice to say the least.
