Paul Bettany Teases VISION’s Powers In AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON
Paul Bettany has played Tony Stark‘s faithful computer butler J.A.R.V.I.S. since the very beginning of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The actor has lent his voice to all the Iron Man movies and The Avengers as he helps Robert Downey Jr. navigate various threats. It was recently announced that Bettany would be making the jump from a voice-over acting to embodying the Vision in Joss Whedon‘s Avengers: Age of Ultron. It was a bit of a surprise considering the actor says he has never seen any of the Marvel movies, but fans are understandably excited about the change. The actor has finally confirmed the role and teased his power set in a recent interview with Jimmy Kimmel.
Bettany appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live a few nights ago, and Kimmel brought up The Avengers. When asked what sort of powers Vision will have in the highly-anticipated sequel, the actor remained a little coy. You can see it for yourself around the 1:20 mark (via Bleeding Cool):
Bettany: Oh, I can do all sort of things. I’m not allowed to really talk about them and what we’re going to do because there might be a Marvel agent in the room that will actually wrestle me to the ground. And fire me.
Kimmel: Even though these powers are all in the comic books?
Bettany: They pick and choose.
Kimmel: So really the question is what powers won’t be on display?
Bettany: That’s exactly right. It’s very exciting for me, but everything is a double-edged sword. I was playing J.A.R.V.I.S. for years, and my job was I would turn up at a recording studio for 45-minutes, do all my stuff, then they would give me a huge bag of cash, then I’d go home. But now, it turns out they found me out and want me to actually do something! That’s not right. That’s not OK.
So Bettany finally confirms his role, but he won’t give out any specifics. We’ll just have to wait and see what role and what powers Vision will have as he gets ready to make his big screen debut. With filming going on for Age of Ultron now, hopefully we’ll get some pictures and set reports about Bettany‘s role soon. What do you think about the actor’s comments?
