31 in 31: Day 9 “Paranormal Activity”

Day 9 of 31 in 31′s movie is Paranormal Activity, which was written and directed by Oren Peli. In 2007 I saw a small independent film that was coming to a city a few miles from me called Paranormal Activity, after researching it and seeing how truly indie this movie was, and what they were doing to bring it to as many theaters as they possibly could I was all about it. My friend and I went to one of the limited showings and watched it without truly knowing what this movie wasabout. Little did I know that I would be watching one of the best paranormal movies that I have seen to date.

The basic synopsis is a couple moves into a home and suddenly becomes plagued by something that definitely isn’t your average haunting. The setup of the movie and how it was filmed, which is something they have worked with in both movies and looks to be continuing in the third installment, also adds to the creepy factor. All in all this movie definitely belongs in 31 in 31 and hopefully you folks rent or watch Paranormal Activity and judge for yourselves!

Paranormal Activity 1 was awesome and so creepy, but the second one wasn’t good, I’ll watch the third one hoping it will be as good as the first one!

I’m sorry, but I just didn’t like it. None of them. It takes much more than that to creep me out — AlbinoDarkBeast

Let me just say that I am a HUGE fan of the Paranormal Activity saga. My wife and I are all about some scary movies, and these do the trick for us. I hear a lot of people saying, “that’s so dumb!” or “that’s not even scary!”…I don’t understand that. I’m a grown man and I’m not afraid to admit that I slept with the door cracked and the light on in the hallway after I saw the first one!

October 21st cannot get here fast enough. Everything from the storyline to how it’s filmed to the even the comedic relief is well done IMO. Pumped to see the conclusion, the trailer (though some of the scenes seem to be a bit repetitive [i.e. people being snatched/dragged away]) looked legit, and the first two movies leave a lot of questions that I can’t wait to have answered in the 3rd one.

Anyways, enough of my fanboy ramblings ;) We’re stoked you guys are giving Livefyre a roll. Feel free to send any thoughts or questions my way, I’m happy to help in any way I can!

@JMattHicksmichael worthan Hi Matt, thanks for the words. Yes, i have decided to use LiveFyre after experimenting with it on my own personal blog. We were using the Facebook social plugin AND the wordpress native solution for comments but i needed something that would work across the board and would be less heavy on the website. Turns out that it works extremely well. We are hoping that, because of the easiness of use, it will drive more people to comment and others to comment even more. My congratulations to you and your team!

To be honest me and the wife have not seen the second one but we absolutely loved the first one. For us it was the way it was shoot, the gritty of it all, the low angles and that weird humming in the night scenes… It freaked me out at points! So much that i was looking over my shoulder and to the stairs that lead to the first floor of my house.

We are going to have to see the second one before the third otherwise its not going to make much sense to us! ha!

@ComicBookTherapymichael worthan Thanks a ton for the kind words, we appreciate it! We’ve worked super hard on it and hearing feedback like that definitely puts a smile on our face :) We’re pumped to be a part of your community, you’ve got an awesome thing going.

And DEFINITELY check out the second one. If you loved the first one, the second one will rock your world. It’s AWESOME. And YES, the a) humming and b) night vision that sort of “hides” things until they’re right in front of you…it’s definitely a technique that adds to the scare factor. If you’ve got Netflix, both the first and second Paranormal Activities are on there for streaming!

I thought this movie wasn’t scary at all. First when I saw the title I thought I really hope this will be a scary movie but it was kinda boring.
