Paolo Rivera Astounds With His CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER Poster
The vast majority of the posters for Captain America: The Winter Soldier have been character images with backgrounds featuring massive destruction. While those are all well and good in their own right, artist Paolo Rivera (the Eisner Award-winning artist of Daredevil) has delivered another absolutely amazing poster for a Marvel Studios film. The artist usually makes special retro-style cast and crew posters, most notably for the first Captain America: The First Avenger and Iron Man 3, but his image for The Winter Soldier may just be the best one yet.
Harry Knowles unveiled a shot earlier today of the poster he was able to get his hands on, but Rivera posted a much better look on his personal website along with some other sketches for the piece before settling on the final design. The artist writes “Well, this got posted on Ain’t It Cool News today, so I’m guessing it’s okay to show. As you can imagine, I had an awesome time working on it… and I can’t wait to the see the movie. I’ll do a full tutorial post on the original art at some point (I recorded the entire painting process via time lapse) but in the meantime, here are a couple of early comps that almost were. Have a great weekend!” Both of the rough sketches would have made amazing posters (especially the one on the left), but the finished product is quite amazing. What do you think? And yes, you can click the images to see them in their full glory.
After the cataclysmic events in New York with The Avengers, “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” finds Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, living quietly in Washington, D.C. and trying to adjust to the modern world. But when a S.H.I.E.L.D. colleague comes under attack, Steve becomes embroiled in a web of intrigue that threatens to put the world at risk. Joining forces with the Black Widow, Captain America struggles to expose the ever-widening conspiracy while fighting off professional assassins sent to silence him at every turn. When the full scope of the villainous plot is revealed, Captain America and the Black Widow enlist the help of a new ally, the Falcon. However, they soon find themselves up against an unexpected and formidable enemy — the Winter Soldier.
