Official Synopsis For Star Trek Into Darkness Emerges

With the announcement that 9 minutes of J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek sequel would be shown with The Hobbit and a trailer on the horizon, it was only a matter of time until some light would be shed on the mysterious plot of the film. An official synopsis has finally emerged today.

In Summer 2013, pioneering director J.J. Abrams will deliver an explosive action thriller that takes Star Trek Into Darkness. When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.

With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction. As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.

That’s actually pretty revealing for a Abrams’ film. We’ll be seeing Kirk and the crew on a manhunt across the cosmos tracking down the villain (most likely Benedict Cumberbatch). Not too long until we see the first 9 minutes of the film with The Hobbit, so hopefully we’ll see some of this play out slightly. The film hits theaters May 17th and stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Zaldana, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, Benedict Cumberbatch and more. What do you think? Does this have you intrigued?
