New Set Photos from The Wolverine Reveal the Leading Ladies

We are patiently waiting for the first trailer to drop for James Mangold’s adaptation of The Wolverine, which is expected to be attached to GI Joe: Retaliation. Until then, we’ll just have to take what we get. Mangold, like a lot of directors now days, have been staying busy on their Twitter feed and today is no different, with three new set images of Hugh Jackman and our first look at the two leading ladies of the film.

As most fans of this acclaimed comic know, Yukio serves as a deadly assassin for Lord Shingen, head of the powerful Yashida clan. Mariko, on the other hand, plays the love interest for Wolverine, but is also the daughter of Shingen, so we have a bit of a Romeo & Juliet type story going. The duo nearly got married in the comics, but it is unlikely that Mangold’s film will delve that far into the story.

Now, all we need is that trailer! Fans are still quite leery about this film and with god reason. The last time we saw Wolverine was in his first solo film, which was an atrocious mess. Jackman, and others, have stated before that the script for The Wolverine is one of the best he’s ever seen, and as fans know, Claremont’s story is among the best in Wolverine’s history. All the pieces are there, but whether or not they all fit together has yet to be seen. The Wolverine slices its way into theaters on July 26th.
