New GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Stills; James Gunn Says There Are AVENGERS 3 Connections

guardians of the galaxy bannerWhile we all await the second full-length trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy, Entertainment Weekly has tried to offer us an entree before the big meal. Their Summer Movie Preview issue featured some new stills from Marvel‘s first cosmic outing as well as a few very interesting words from director James Gunn.

In the magazine Gunn confirms that Thanos, the Mad Titan himself, will be a motion-capture character he describes as the ”head of the snake.” While he wouldn’t say who is doing the mo-cap or voice of Thanos, he does tease the character’s actions, saying only “Thanos slaughtered [Gamora's] family and Nebula’s, then raised them together as siblings. They were bio engineered to become living weapons, so he’s really good at killing people.” Speaking about the film’s leading man, Chris Pratt, Gunn teased Star-Lord‘s upbringing. He says, “he was abducted from Earth (Missouri) at age 8 and raised in a group of thieves and smuggles called the Ravagers. He’s good with the ladies and a little bit of a dick and very lucky.” Finally, Gunn dropped the biggest teaser of all when it comes to how Guardians connects back up with the main Marvel Cinematic Universe. Giving no other explanation, Gunn stated “We’re definietly connected to Avengers 3.” We can probably guess that has a lot to do with Thanos and his overarching plans. We’ll just have to wait and see though. (Quotes via CBM and Guard the Galaxy).

Gunn himself Tweeted out a few of the stills from the magazine. They show off a great group shot of the Guardians in their prison garb, Chris Pratt and Zoe Saldana looking at the mysterious orb, and one of Star-Lord running through a desert-like wasteland. Guardians of the Galaxy stars Chris Pratt as Peter “Star-Lord” Quill, Zoe Saldana as the deadly Gamora, Dave Batista as Drax the Destroyer, Vin Diesel as Groot, and Bradley Cooper as the gun-totting Rocket Raccoon. The James Gunn directed film will blast into theaters August 1, 2014. What do you think about the new stills?

Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits–Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon; Groot, a tree-like humanoid; the deadly and enigmatic Gamora; and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Quill discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand–with the galaxy’s fate in the balance.
