New CAPTAIN AMERICA Character Poster; Plus News On CAP’s Super Bowl Win Over SPIDER-MAN and TRANSFORMERS
The past few weeks have been big for Captain America: The Winter Soldier. A slew of new images have been released over the last few days, a Super Bowl spot aired, and then a short time later fans were directed to a website where spectacular new full-length trailer was revealed. The film has quickly climbed many folks’ most anticipated list. Today a new character poster featuring Robert Redford has been released along with news on Cap‘s unquestionable win during last Sunday’s rather disappointing game.
USA Today unveiled a new character poster for the Russo brothers directed film featuring legendary actor and director Robert Redford as Alexander Pierce. Redford‘s role has been spoiled somewhat thanks to the actor’s comments last year, but the official media push for the film is still keeping things secretive. Redford is getting his own poster for his star power alone, but hopefully this means Anthony Mackie‘s Falcon and The Winter Soldier himself will be getting their own character spotlights soon.
Along with the poster USA Today revealed that Cap blew the competition out of the water when it came to the Super Bowl. Transformers aired a 30-second spot then Spider-Man aired their own spot as well as a nearly 4 minute long sizzle reel online, but The Winter Soldier won the numbers game. The site says:
The shield-slinging Marvel Comics character only garnered a 30-second spot for the upcoming sequel Captain America: The Winter Soldier that aired during the big game on Fox Sunday night. But the extended video that the commercial sent people to on YouTube (through FoxSports.com) tallied 9.6 million views in the USA in its first 24 hours online, according to Marvel Studios.
The total has now eclipsed 10.7 million on the video-sharing website, holding a sizable lead over the very first look at footage from Transformers: Age of Extinction (nearly 6.2 million) and “Enemies Unite” sizzle reel for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2.5 million).
Marvel states that last year’s Iron Man 3 spot only totaled 3.2 million views in 24 hours while 2012’s Avengers spot only racked up 2.7 million in a day. It goes without saying that The Winter Soldier is a movie that has managed to get a lot of people excited. To be so dominate over the other two movies is a little surprising considering the Transformers spot offered the first look at the film as well as the Dinobots. I mean, come on, Optimus Prime was riding a Dinobot! Regardless of the numbers, it’s a great sign for Marvel and fans of the Star Spangled Man. What do you think about the new poster? Are you surprised Cap left everyone else in the dust when it came to YouTube views?
